Job Description

Job Objective:  This position will build, develop and nurture corps ministry to the Hispanic community through outreach, service programs, and spiritual ministry

 

Essential Functions:

• Plan, develop and implement spiritual ministries, educational programs, and social service programs for the Hispanic community according to The Salvation Army policy and procedure
• Assist with preaching ministry
• Promote cross-cultural emphasis for all areas of corps activities
• Plan, develop and conduct weekly ministry services including, but not limited to, worship services, bible studies, and youth programs
• Through Social Service contacts, conduct follow up visitation for possible bridging to the corps
• Represent The Salvation Army within the community for matters pertaining to the Hispanic community
• Participate in special events and fund raising efforts
• Recruit, train and manage volunteer program for Hispanic programs and other corps activities
• Attend camps, conferences, staff and community meetings as appropriate and/or as directed
• Provide translation services for Hispanic clients
• Assist with van ministry

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor degree in related field; post-secondary education and/or minimum two years’ ministry experience will be considered in lieu of education requirement

 

Experience:  Prior ministry experience preferred; relevant experience will be considered; supervisory experience preferred

 

Certifications/Licenses:  None

 

Skills/Abilities: 

• An understanding of the Biblical standards and ministry of The Salvation Army
• A desire and ability to work with the Hispanic community and the ability to motivate and inspire people to see the importance of Hispanic programming in The Salvation Army
• Bilingual – Spanish and English
• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
• Ability to promote TSA through public speaking, written work and effectively work well with others
• Ability to operate basic office equipment. Able to operate a computer with knowledge of applicable software including MS Office and Access
• Willingness and available to work irregular and extended hours

Supervisory Responsibility:  May be assigned supervision of volunteers

 

Physical Requirements:  Include sitting, walking and standing for extended periods of time; bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and twisting; grasping, pushing, and pulling objects; reaching overhead; lifting up to 50 lbs.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job. 

 

Travel: None

 

Driving:  This position requires an employee to drive. Employee must possess a valid driver’s license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet safety program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

        

Working Conditions:  Work  performed in a typical office environment and in the community; some irregular and extended hours required; some weekend and evening work required

 

It is expected the employee will be a uniformed Salvationist or be willing to explore Salvation.  Corps leadership will have discretion in selecting candidate willing and able to achieve Salvationist status within a prescribed period of time.
