The Boathouse and Store Assistant Manager assists in the operation of the boathouse and store, and conducts sales of Cleveland Metroparks merchandise, products and services. Serves the public with integrity to effectively and efficiently assist customers and represent the Park District in a professional manner.
This position will require varying locations for at least the next 2 years. Hinckley will be the home office, but travel to other locations throughout the Cleveland Metroparks is required.
Essential Functions:
- Regular and predictable attendance is expected and required. All Cleveland Metroparks employees must be prepared to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
- Performs supervisory functions with regard to seasonal staff in Manager's absence.
- Provides basic maintenance and repair for motorized and non-motorized rental equipment.
- Assists with moving and cleaning of bait tanks as well as other general maintenance functions.
- Operates electric or gas motorboat. Handles lead-acid batteries and gasoline.
- Meets customer needs by selling merchandise and/or renting equipment. Provides quality customer service and ensure accurate point of sale transactions.
- Accurately performs store opening and closing procedures.
- Assists with merchandise display and replenishment of inventory.
- Performs general housekeeping duties including but not limited to dusting, mopping, cleaning bathroom and maintaining a clean store.
- Adhere to Cleveland Metroparks Accounting Manual which provides policies and procedures for money/funds handling and deposits.
- Keeps manager informed of financial, customer and informational needs, i.e. inventory, sales or customer concerns/complaints.
- Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.
- High School diploma or GED preferred. Prior experience in retail preferred.
- Must have a valid driver's license under the laws of the State of Ohio. Must obtain within three months of hire date and maintain an Ohio Boater Education Certificate.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
- Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
- Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
- Management skills and strong business acumen, including problem solving, vision, ability to manage multiple programs and meet deadlines, collaboration, leadership, decision making and ability to analyze diverse facts and develop clear and concise reports and recommendations.

- Proficiency in software programs including all Microsoft Office programs.
- Mature professional attitude and considerable discretion, including ability to manage confidential information.
- Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.
Work Shift:Must be available to work a flexible schedule including some mornings, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required. Scheduled summer hours can be long and fast paced. Short notice shift coverage may be necessary.
