Overview
Manages a distributed HIMS Operations team, consisting of a Quality Coordinator and HIMS analysts spread across five facilities dealing with both acute care and behavioral health. Plans, coordinates, monitors, and manages work flows ensuring effective and efficient daily HIMS operations. Uses knowledge of Riverside's mission and core strategy as a basis to develop specific department objectives and goals. Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) on health information management issues including HIPAA, confidentiality, information storage and retrieval, and record retention.
What you will do
- Works with team members to provide education and communication including but not limited to huddles, communication of information pertaining to job performance, individual coaching, counseling, skill development, staff morale and motivation. Supports innovation, encourages creativity, and helps staff to accept and resolve challenges.
- Manages recruiting, training, and scheduling to ensure adequate coverage for HIMS Operations.
- Effectively manages the department workload and special projects, by appropriately delegating to team members.
- Looks for opportunities to improve patient documentation. Uses multiple tools and reports for cross-checking accuracy of information. Shares information with key leadership with recommendations when corrective action plans are needed and provides updates periodically to document improvement.
- Participates and leads committees to improve the EMR such as the Forms Committee.
- Demonstrates ability to create and / or view and analyze various data reports to design meaningful metrics and trend reports and implement or recommend corresponding performance improvement initiatives.
- Enforces operational, procedural, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
Education
- Associates Degree, Health Information Management or related field (Required)
- Bachelors Degree, Health Information Management or related field (Preferred)
Experience
- 3-4 years HIMS experience (Acute care preferred) (Required)
- 2 years Supervisory experience (Preferred)

Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) AHIMA (Required)
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIT) - The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) AHIMA (Preferred)
- LSS Yellow Belt within 1 Year (Required)
