- Responsible for Health Information Management (HIM) Department operations, management of HIM staff, providing guidance, direction, and support to the team.
- HIM table maintenance including but not limited to deficiency and document types.
- Monitors health information management systems and sets the healthcare system's standards for data quality and ethical practice.
- Participates in the development of health information management policies and procedures on release of information, confidentiality, information security, information storage and retrieval and record retention.
- Work with providers to improve quality of documentation.
- Monitoring provider deficiencies and reporting to improve record completion timeliness
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with providers and clinical leaders/staff.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal laws and standards related to privacy, security, and record completion
- Monitors and manages the daily medical record billing file to monitor the discharged not final billed accounts (DNFB).
- Works collaboratively with all teams in the revenue cycle including our business partners to include but not limited to Release of Information Business Partner and Coding Business Partner.
- Establish standard operating procedures
- Must be capable of performing the tasks required of hourly employees
- Monitors and manages transcription processes and onboards new providers.
- Manages and monitors the department Quality Assurance Program Initiative.
- Lead weekly staff meetings to track progress toward work plan activities and tasks.
- Supports Compliance and HIPAA Privacy Officer projects as needed and participate at Corporate Compliance Meeting as needed.
- Member of the ESH Forms Committee.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management (preferred),
- Certification as an RHIT, RHIA, CCS
- 5 years' experience health information management (preferred)
- 2 years' prior supervisory experience required; 5 years' experience preferred.
- Strong management history and oversight in managing priorities and organizing work structures in face-paced environment.
- Critical Access Hospital experience strongly preferred.
- Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and lead a team with a high degree of accuracy, thoroughness, and professionalism.
- Ability to multi-task, maintain attention to detail and accuracy, complete projects by deadlines and communicate progress.
- High level of integrity and ability to maintain strict confidentiality of information handled.
