Work Based Learning (WBL)

Our work based learning program is an educational opportunity for students to obtain real-life work experiences where they can apply academic and technical skills and develop their employability. A students experience will be customized based on their experience, content knowledge, career interests, and skills. A team of mentors have expertise and resources to effectively meet the learning needs of the HS grade students and the vital connection with local schools, teachers, and counselors to align classroom and workplace learning.

  • Recent research, policy literature, and federal legislation suggest that a comprehensive WBL program contains three key components:
  • Alignment of classroom and workplace learning
  • Application of academic, technical, and employability skills in a workplace
  • Support from classroom or workplace mentors
  • The academic, social-emotional, and technical skills of 9th-12th graders are very different than post-secondary students
