The MCSD principal is a highly qualified instructional leader and is responsible for leading a successful educational program. The primary duty of the principal will be to administer the planning, organizing and implementation of all educational activities and oversee all related and supporting activities of the school. The principal will be responsible for ensuring a trusting and openly communicative environment exists among all students, staff and parents.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Hold at least a Master's Degree in education or school administration at the grade level required for the school site ( Ed. S., Ed. D. or PH.D. degree preferred) from an accredited college or university
  • Hold a current Mississippi license in Administration
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of curriculum development, program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research relating to learning
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications, and experience using them in a professional capacity
  • Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, administration, parents and community
  • Ability to provide leadership in identifying and solving problems
  • Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative
  • Meet such alternates to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and the MCSD Board may deem appropriate and acceptable

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
The Principal shall:
  1. Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.
  2. Organize, nurture and lead an effective school based leadership and decision making team in overseeing the implementation of the school's planning for the following:

  1. Improved student performance;
  2. Comprehensive plan with annual student achievement targets, supported by parents, staff, and community members;
  3. Integration and alignment of school functions aimed at student achievement
  4. Infusion of educational technology within the curriculum;
  5. Professional development for all staff focused on the achievement of the Core Curriculum Content Standards;
  6. Safe environment conducive to learning, including a school security plan
  7. Building parental and community support;
  8. Research based program of curriculum and instruction;
  9. Accountability system with rewards and sanctions related to achievement.
  1. Collect and analyze data regarding the needs and achievement of students, including State assessments, district assessments, and other pertinent information affecting the design, implementation and modifications of services and programs.
  2. Establish the master schedule for instructional programs, ensuring sequential learning experiences for students that meet and exceed district and State content standards.
  3. Supervise the instructional programs of the school, evaluating lesson plans and observing classes on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth and development.
  4. Certify to the Superintendent that each child promoted and/or graduated has met all State and local requirements.
  5. Provide and supervise in a fair and consistent manner effective discipline and attendance systems with high standards, consistent with the philosophy, values, and mission of the school and district in accordance with due process and other laws and regulations;
  6. Ensure a safe, orderly environment that encourages students to take responsibility for behavior and creates high morale among staff and students.
  7. Enforce all aspects of student discipline, in classrooms, recess, hallways, on school grounds, after-school events and on the school bus.
  8. Incorporate procedures for the early identification of potentially disruptive students and the conditions that create or enhance unacceptable behavior (e.g., bullying), and implement programs to address such conditions.
  9. Report and respond immediately to incidents and situations (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, harassment, bullying, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students and providing a positive learning environment adhering to state and local policies.
  10. Assist in selecting resources, supplies, materials, textbooks, and equipment to enhance learning.
  11. Establish a professional rapport that earns respect from students and staff.
  12. Serve as a role model for students, dressing professionally, demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and demonstrating pride in the educational profession.
  13. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
PRINCIPAL
  1. Recommend to the Superintendent the renewal, dismissal, teaching assignments or other actions for all personnel assigned to the school, following established procedures and timelines.
  2. Recommend to the Superintendent personnel to fill all vacant positions in the school, following District affirmative action, recruitment and selection procedures.
  3. Provide opportunities for effective staff development that address the needs of the instructional programs and needs of the staff, including workshops, conferences, visitations, and sessions in which the staff share successful practices and strategies.
  4. Keep the staff informed and conduct meetings as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
  5. Organize and supervise a comprehensive program of athletics and/or extracurricular activities to complement the instructional program.
  6. Approve all purchases in accordance with district, school and state policies and procedures.
  7. Maintain an effective inventory system for all school equipment in accordance with district and state policies and procedures.
  8. Implement procedures that create and maintain attractive, organized, functional, healthy, clean, and safe facilities, with proper attention to the visual, acoustic, and thermal environments conducive to instruction.
  9. Assume responsibility for the health, safety, and welfare of students, personnel, and visitors.
  10. Follow procedures and provide regular drills for emergencies and disasters following State, local and District guidelines.
  11. Implement schedules and procedures for the supervision of students in non- classroom areas, before and after school including but not limited to, bus loading and unloading, athletic events and cafeteria.
AA. Maintain visibility with students, staff, parents, and the community, attending school and community functions regularly to demonstrate a genuine interest in the students and staff.
BB. Organize and maintain a public relations system for the school that consistently celebrates and informs parents and the community of the accomplishment of students and staff.
CC. Develop and continually upgrade you school-wide plan according to regulations set forth by Federal/State regulations.
DD. Complete in a timely fashion all records and reports as required by law and regulation or requested by the Superintendent or district level staff. (e.g. Title I reports, PD Forms, Inventories, IEP's, Tier Reports, etc.) Answer correspondence promptly.
EE. Secure and assign substitute teachers according to District guidelines. FF. Maintain accurate attendance records of students and/or staff.
GG. Maintain and account for all student activity funds and money collected from students in accordance with district policy and auditing recommendations.
HH. Communicate with the Superintendent regularly about the needs, success, and general operation of the school.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
PRINCIPAL
II. Ensure that personnel and student record keeping procedures comply with State and Federal law and district policy. Implement procedures for safe storing and integrity of all public and confidential school records.
JJ. Ensure the integrity of State and District testing procedures and participate with all State and District testing as assigned.
KK. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent, in order to contribute to an effective school operation.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • FSLA Status: Exempt
  • Salary is established by Board policy
  • Number of working days according to contract
  • Salary Schedule: TBD by District Salary Schedule
  • Conditions established by laws and codes of the State of Mississippi
  • Policies, rules and regulations established by local and state policies
EVALUATION:
Performance in this position will be evaluated by the Superintendent or the Director of Curriculum in accordance with provisions of the State and District policies on principal evaluation
