Our school is incredibly diverse and students are challenged to excel in our rigorous and supportive environment. Candidates should be seeking a position in a collaborative, innovative educational environment focused on college preparation and community improvement. They should be comfortable developing curriculum, working closely with colleagues, and should have a strong understanding of all the relevant Common Core State Standards. As Blackstone Academy is an Essential School, applicants should be familiar with the Coalition of Essential Schools philosophy and guiding principles. Blackstone's faculty and staff consciously integrate social-emotional learning into the curriculum so applicants should have a firm understanding of the importance and power of social-emotional learning. In addition to teaching topics in Mathematics, this teacher will also be an advisor. Blackstone's strong advisory system is a central component of our program. Advisories meet twice daily and the advisor is the primary guide for advisees/parents through our course requirements and portfolio system. The Blackstone advisor helps students stay on track to graduate and develop the important "soft" skills necessary to succeed. Finally, depending upon need, this teacher may also instruct one of our signature Community Improvement Projects (CIPs). CIPs are the project-based learning activities that are at the heart of the school's approach to applying learned skills to the resolution of local community problems. Competitive salary commensurate with years of experience. Interested applicants should identify themselves to Kyleen Carpenter, Head of School, through the School Spring portal. Blackstone is an EOE and we strongly encourage applications from a diverse candidate pool who are committed to understanding and working with primarily low-income, students of color.
