About Weld RE-5J
Weld RE 5J is a Rural District with seven schools serving approximately 3,800 students. In the district we have one state of the art newly built High School, one middle school (being remodeled), three elementary schools (two newly built/remodeled), and two charter schools; all schools are within a 15 minute drive of one another making for short distances to travel in the district. We are located just east of I-25 making an easy commute from many locations including Greeley, Loveland, Fort Collins, Denver and Rocky Mountain National Park; all while still having a mountain view!
Terms
This position does not qualify for benefits. Salary is based on experience and will be prorated per our Athletic Salary Schedule Column I ($6,000 to $7,000).

  • Our goal is to win. Our purpose is to build students character.
  • Your character determines how you coach. Your coaching demonstrates your character. Be a person of character. Be a coach of character.
  • A team is a set of relationships for a purpose: build relationships and know your purpose.
  • We are using this game to build people of character.
  • To coach character you must possess it. Model character with your words and actions.
  • Be mindful never to shame a player, but to correct him/her in an uplifting way.
  • Protect our students. Be big enough to build up not tear down.
  • Look for and celebrate all acts of character displayed on or off the court, field, track, mat or any other sports arena.
  • Each player is part of our team-family and they deserve a chance to succeed and to be given our upmost respect.
  • Remember our parents are our partners; we strive to work with each family in helping their child succeed in life.
  • Coaches and administration can disagree in meetings, but never in front of students or anyone else outside of our staff.

  • Know the difference between shaming and coaching. Don't yell at your student athletes, coach them.
  • Don't be afraid to apologize.

General Statement of Responsibility
The head coach for each sport has the responsibility of carrying on the sport in the best interest of the school district by adhering to the policies and regulations of the Re-5J Board of Education and the athletic standards of Roosevelt High School. Further, each head coach should have a working knowledge of the rules and regulations of the Tri-Valley League, Colorado High School Activities Association and follow the Colorado High School Coaches Association Code of Ethics.
Professional Qualifications
  • Full time teaching assignment at Roosevelt High School/Weld RE-5J School District. If not staff, must become Colorado High School Activities Association Certified or hold a valid/current Colorado Teaching License.
  • At least five {5} years of successful experience in his or her chosen coaching area.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as may be found appropriate and acceptable.
  • Successful background check.

Personal Qualifications
  • Encourage the student body and spectators to be courteous and polite to the visiting team.
  • Always display good sportsmanship, winning or losing.
  • Maintain poise and self-control at all times, especially at the contests.
  • Teach the team to play fairly and within the rules.
  • Be a good host to the visiting team and their coaches.
  • Discipline and, if necessary, dismiss players who disregard good sportsmanship either on the field/floor or on the bench.
  • Respect the officials' judgment and interpretation of the rules. Coach the team and not officiate the game.
  • Publicity attempt to shake hands with officials and the opposing coach prior to and after the game.
  • Encourage multi-sport athletes and support all other programs and activities.
  • Must be an effective communicator with parents, players, administration, etc.

Program Responsibilities
  • Has full responsibility for the overall supervision of the program at all levels.
  • Is in charge of assisting all duties of assistant coaches working under his/her program.
  • Is in charge of all assistant coaches and making decisions in conjunction with the athletic director on all assistant coach employment/termination.
  • Completes and turns in to the transportation supervisor and athletic director requests for travel.
  • Notifies the faculty of those trips, which will make it necessary for an athlete to miss classes.
  • Make sure athletes have a way home after returning from road trips.
  • Has responsibility of maintaining and overseeing fundraising account.
  • Must maintain records of all equipment and uniforms.
