REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Asst. to the Superintendent for Admin Services
PURPOSES OF POSITION
Counselors are to:
- Recognize and encourage individual uniqueness
- Facilitate student development as well as the understanding and acceptance of others.
- Assist students to become aware of and plan for master educational and occupational opportunities.
- Help students develop the multiple skills needed for adapting to a changing society.
- Provide all students services designed to help them to share, cooperate and master the academic and extracurricular opportunities of the Woodland Hills School District.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate degree in guidance and counseling in an approved guidance and counseling program and recommended by the program for certification.
- Pennsylvania State certification
- Teaching and/or other related educational experience.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Talk with students about academic, personal, social concerns.
- Help in identifying the needs of students.
- Assist students in the decision-making process, both educational and personal.
- Work with students at risk.
- Conduct discipline interviews.
- Help students relate to others.
- Mediate disputes/conflict resolution
- Assist teachers and parents in helping students.
- Help students make better use of resources.
- Use test results to gain information about achievement, interests and needs.
- Coordinate efforts with other school personnel.
- Help with school, job, career and personal planning.
- Aid students in scheduling process
- Coordinate referrals to outside agencies
- Academic and career planning
- Coordinate 9th grade orientation
