Essential Functions:
• Ensure safety of students
• Promote intellectual, personal, and social development
• Promote the development of such skills as goal setting, self-motivation, cultivation of self-esteem, promotion of interpersonal relationships, leadership and problem solving
• Develop each participant's moral and social values
• Be responsible for all matters pertaining to the school, administration and coaching of athletic teams under his/her direction
• Shall be aware of and enforce all rules and regulations of the OHSAA, district athletic policies and Board of Education policies
• Promote the best interest in the total athletic program as it relates to the best interest of the students and welfare of the school district
• Conform to the athletic department policy and Board of Education policy
• Check on the eligibility of each athlete and adhere to all Ohio High School Athletic Association Rules.
• To be responsible for all equipment and facilities used in his/her sport
• Establish training rules conducive for his/her individual sport
• Check all physical cards prior to first practice
• Give proper instructions concerning safety procedures for the sport concerned
• Give and enforce instructions on sanitary use of water bottles, etc.
• Help keep locker room and equipment storage areas clean and organized
• Assign equipment, uniforms, and locks and maintain accountability of such
• Encourage athletes in good behavior and moral conduct
• Attend and be on time to all practices and games so that athletes are properly supervised
• Remain at school with all athletes until parents pick them up
• Maintain student code of conduct on bus trips Bus rules do apply)
• Responsible for making sure all athletes have opportunity to participate in games regardless of win/loss status
• Pass out correct release forms, physical exam forms, conduct forms, etc. and make sure each athlete has turned in their forms
• Copies of emergency medical forms are to taken to all away trips.
• Supervise student conduct in locker room areas. Promote student responsibility with respect for school property
• At the end of the sport season, make an inventory of all equipment, note repairs and shortages, and report to principal and athletic director. All uniforms must be properly laundered and stored in an organized fashion.
• Copy schedules and disperse to the athletes so parents will be knowledgeable of schedules.
• Make requests in writing for new uniforms and equipment. Copies are to be turned into principal and athletic director.
• Be responsible for getting proper athletic awards from the athletic director and be prepared to award these at the end of the sport season.
• Perform duties with high moral and ethical conduct, i.e., no profanity, etc.
• Work with trainer in assisting athletes in the care and prevention of injuries
• Report all injuries to the trainer
• Responsible for manager's (number, conduct, selection, and duties of each)
• Keep a current and complete roster of players and submit to the Athletic Director
• Report all misconduct or other unusual situation to the Head Coach and/or Athletic Director
• Conduct or assist with the off season conditioning program
• Supervise tryouts in cooperation with the Athletic Director and Building Principal
• Assist in the preparation of facilities for all contests and practice sessions
• Schedule, plan and conduct all practice sessions and scrimmages
• Schedule team meetings to discuss pertinent information
• Provide information to media regarding the team
• Attend and participate in athletic booster club and/or support groups
• Report or assign someone to report lineups, scoring plays, and other pertinent data of each game
• Accept duties as assigned by Head Coach
• Attend coaches meetings
• Instruct athletes in the proper use of body building equipment, training and nutrition
• Organize filming of matches, games and/or meets
• Condition and train all participants in the fundamentals of the sport
• Promote good sportsmanship and good citizenship
• Work with the Athletic Director and other coaches in developing practice sessions when sharing facilities
• Assign duties and responsibilities to assistants
