Overview:  
 
Universal Engineering Sciences (UES) has an opening in our Building Inspection Department. UES is a nationwide leader in Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Materials Testing and Inspection, Building Code Compliance, Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, and Building Envelope.

The HERS/Energy Star Inspector will play a crucial role in assessing the energy performance and sustainability of residential and commercial buildings. This position involves conducting inspections, performing diagnostic tests, and evaluating building systems to ensure compliance with HERS (Home Energy Rating System) and Energy Star standards. The Inspector will work closely with builders, contractors, and homeowners to provide recommendations for improving energy efficiency and sustainability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    •    Perform inspections of residential and commercial buildings to assess their energy performance and compliance with HERS and Energy Star standards.
    •   Utilize specialized equipment and tools to conduct diagnostic tests, such as blower door tests, duct leakage tests, and thermal imaging, to identify areas of energy loss and inefficiency.
    • Gather measurements during inspections, including HVAC systems, insulation levels, air sealing, and appliance efficiency.
    • Prepare detailed reports and documentation of inspection findings, energy ratings, and recommendations for improvements. Ensure that reports are accurate, clear, and compliant with industry standards.
    • Collaborate with builders, contractors, and homeowners to explain inspection results, energy ratings, and recommended energy-saving measures. Provide guidance on energy-efficient building practices and technologies.

Required Qualifications
    • Valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver's License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria).
    • Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida's Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification).
    • Ability to read & write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients.
    • Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails, and the ability to learn Data Collection to input data and prepare reports.
    • Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
    • Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
    • Prior involvement in residential construction, with a focus on HVAC or home inspections
    • Certified Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Inspector or Field Inspector.
    •  Building Performance Institute (BPI) Certification or equivalent training in building science.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
    • Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk, and hear. Occasional body motions and movements include: bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing. Standing or sitting for extended periods of time may be required.  
    • Capability to navigate ladders and access attic spaces.
    • Proficiency in lifting objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
    •  Exposure to outdoor environments, non-conditioned structures, and standard office settings
    • Potential need for overtime and weekend work to meet tight schedules.
