Compensation:Compensation Type:Non-ExemptEmployment Type:Fixed Term (Fixed Term)Scheduled Weekly Hours:30Grade:NE05Department:Community OutreachPosition SummaryThe High School Equivalency Program (HEP) is a U.S. Department of Education (ED) funded program aimed at providing migrant and/or seasonal farmworkers the skills necessary to pass the High School Equivalency (HSE) Credential and subsequently, to gain employment or begin postsecondary education or training. The Recruiter/College and Career Advisor is responsible for outreach and recruitment, higher education and Career guidance, and will assist students with their transition to post-secondary education, training opportunities, the workforce, or to the military. Will also provide administrative assistance to support program objectives.Duties & Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and perform community outreach aimed at recruiting program participants.
  • Coordinate and deliver training and workshops related to college and Career readiness.
  • Works collaboratively to develop and strengthen student recruitment, referral, and transition processes with college, workforce center, armed services and relevant businesses and community organizations.
  • Collaborates with the program coordinator to plan student orientation and leadership activities and events.
  • Collaborates with lead instructor/curriculum coordinator to organize transition services.
  • Advise and assist students in conducting career research and planning; workforce training; internship placement; job readiness and employment search; college planning and admissions; and financial aid processes.
  • Monitors student academic performance throughout the program.
  • Responsible for maintaining student transition data, records, and reports detailing student progress.
  • Advises students and their families on college entrance requirements, exams and preparation sessions for college entrance exams.
  • Assists students in the completion of college applications, scholarships, financial aid, and other admission materials.
  • Arrange visits with college representatives.
  • Maintains student portfolios with documentation that is relevant to each student’s specific goals.
  • Maintains and updates regularly a resource library of information on careers and college programs.
  • Conduct follow up with program participants and tracks transition status – provide advisement as needed.
  • Assists with the administrative duties of the department, including but not limited to supply and service quotes, travel requests, recording student enrollment and attendance logs, spring and fall class program calendars and term workshop and class schedules.
  • Maintain regular attendance.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: Associate degree and demonstrated ability to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined in this job description.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree, one (1) year experience in a post-secondary institution, recruiting experience, and experience working with low-income minority students in rural communities. Bilingual in Spanish/English.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License;
  • Must be willing to travel;
  • Continued employment is contingent upon grant funding.

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and balance a heavy workload.

  • High organizational and problem solving abilities, task-oriented, and flexible.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must maintain a strong background in postsecondary admissions process/requirements, financial aid, and academic programs.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver presentations to high school and college students.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • No or very limited physical effort required;
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds;
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is normally performed in a typical office environment.
