Job description

Health Advocates Network is currently seeking a Hemodialysis Technician to work at a Facility in Waupun, Wisconsin. These are registry positions with our company.
Pay Rate: $30 / hour
Shift Details:

  • Dialysis Units at Client & FLCI 26 weeks, Mon/Wed/Fri 5-330pm
    Occasional flexibility, NO weekends, occasional holidays
GOALS AND WORKER ACTIVITIES

A. Participation in direct patient care under the direct supervision of a Nurse Clinician.

A1. Maintain professional conduct, good communication skills, and confidentiality in the care of patients. Participate in the multidisciplinary process.

A2. Measure and accurately document pre-dialysis vital signs and weights.

A3. Inspect and prepare dialysis accesses prior to the dialysis treatment, cleansing fistula/graft arms for venipuncture or catheter port sites for connection.

A4. Administer local anesthesia and anticoagulation per unit protocols and patient prescription.

A5. Aseptically initiate dialysis treatments according to unit protocol and patient prescription.

A6. Determine patient ultrafiltration goal and program the dialysis machine.

A7. Document initial treatment parameters and communicates patient conditions and issues to the Nurse Clinician.

A8. Monitor and document on patients and equipment throughout the dialysis treatment, responding to alarms, and readjusting treatment parameters as defined by established protocols and individual patient prescriptions.

A9. Change fluid removal rates, patient positions, and administer replacement saline as directed by the Nurse Clinician.

A10. Monitor and fill dialysate baths during treatment sessions.

A11. Respond appropriately to dialysis- related emergencies such as hypotensive episodes, needle displacement or infiltration, clotting episodes, blood leaks, air emboli, etc. according to policy and procedure.

A12. Terminate the dialysis treatment per policy and procedure.

A13. Aseptically cleanse and dress catheter exit sites. Remove fistula needles and dress needle sites according to policy and procedure.

A14. Obtain post dialysis vital signs and weights.

A15. Provide assistance with transfers, repositioning, toileting, nourishments, pillows and blankets.

A16. Set up, draw and process laboratory specimens.

A17. Initiate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in the event of a cardiac arrest.

A18. Serve as a runner for unit needs including laboratory runs, pharmacy supplies, and escort of patients back to units post treatment via wheel chair as needed.

B. Preparation of dialysis solutions.

B1. Maintain dialysate supply for machine and unit stock needs.

B2. Mix additives with potassium baths per patient prescription.

B3. Prepare bicarbonate baths utilizing the bicarbonate mixer per policy and procedure.

C. Maintenance of dialysis equipment and supplies.

C1. String, prime and perform test mode on Hemodialysis machines.

C2. Disinfect Hemodialysis machines per policy and procedure.

C3. Discard used blood lines and cleanse machines between patients.

C4. Disinfect reusable supplies per policy and procedure.

C5. Perform daily water system check.

C6. Complete free and total chlorine tests on water samples per unit policy and procedure.

C7. Obtain water and dialysate cultures as directed by Nurse Clinician.

C8. Maintain unit stock of treatment items.

C9. Assist in unit tool/needle counts.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

1. Considerable knowledge and ability to make accurate and complete observations and assess patient status regarding changes in physical and mental condition of patients.

2. Considerable knowledge of actions to be initiated in emergency situations and how to initiate such actions.

3. Extensive knowledge of equipment, procedures, rules and regulations pertinent to the facility and job function.

4. Ability to maintain a helpful and understanding attitude toward an incarcerated adult exhibiting hostile or other negative behavioral traits.

5. Ability to work with multi-ethnic, multi-cultural population.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have the ability to work up to 16 hours per day and more than 40 hours per week on any shift based on daily operational needs. This may include weekends, holidays, and on-call hours.
  • Must maintain CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) certification and have the ability to perform CPR and/or first aid to prevent loss of life and relieve suffering until appropriate care arrives.
