Heavy Fabrication Shop Manager - Heavy Plate Fabrication, Plate Rolling, Welding, and AutoCAD
We are a well-established company in the industrial sector, serving the pulp and paper, mining, and heavy industry markets. We are currently seeking a Shop Manager with experience in AutoCAD, drafting, Heavy Plate bending, welding, and fabrications for industrial applications. We operate a 600-ton press brake, large plate roller, burning tables, fabrication stations, and manual machining operations.

Responsibilities:
• Manage day-to-day operations of the shop, including scheduling, production, and quality control.
• Utilize AutoCAD to create and modify shop drawings.
• Manage the fabrication of Heavy Plate bending and Welding projects to meet customer specifications and deadlines.
• Monitor inventory levels and order materials as needed.
• Work with the sales team to develop quotes and proposals for new projects.
• Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Travel 20% required.

Qualifications:
• 5+ years of experience in shop management and Heavy Industrial fabrication • Knowledge of various welding methods and technologies.
• Proficiency in Heavy Plate bending and Welding for industrial applications. • In-depth familiarity of a 600-ton press break.
• In-depth familiarity with plate rolling machinery.
• In-depth familiarity with burning tables.
• Must have custom fabrication drafting experience.
• Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and drafting techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
• Familiarity with AWS and ASME codes.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Familiarity with safety and quality standards in industrial settings
• The perfect candidate would be a CWI.

Math Skills Required:
• Math: Basic arithmetic skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division is essential in metal fabrication. Managers need to be able to perform quick calculations to determine measurements, angles, and dimensions.
• Fractions and decimals: Manager must be comfortable working with fractions and decimals to accurately measure and cut materials to the correct length and width.
• Geometry: A strong understanding of geometry is necessary to accurately measure angles and create complex shapes. Manager must be able to use trigonometry to calculate angles and solve geometric problems.
• Algebra: Algebraic skills are required to calculate the size and shape of metal parts, as well as to estimate costs and material requirements.
• Measurement skills: Manager must have excellent measurement skills and be able to read and interpret drawings, technical drawings, and specifications.
• Must also be able to use measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and rulers to take accurate measurements.
• Estimation: Estimation skills are necessary to estimate the number of materials needed for a project, the time required to complete a task, and the costs associated with a project. • Overall, metal fabrication requires: a strong foundation in math and an ability to apply mathematical concepts to real-world situations. A high level of accuracy and attention to detail is necessary to ensure that parts are fabricated to the correct specifications.
