Job description

This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill current and any future vacancies within the Resource Management Agency. The anticipated life of the employment list is six months. Current vacancy is with the Resource Management Agency located in Visalia. The anticipated life of the list is six months.


SALARY RANGE:
Level I: $4,211 - $5,132 Monthly
Level II:$4,627-$5,640Monthly

Weld a variety of materials using both gas and arc welding processes. Do cutting, forging and heating of materials to facilitate forming, bending, shaping, tempering or repairing of metal parts. Repair cracks and broken parts of mold, stainless and carbon steel. Grind and shape steel using angle head and bench grinders; fabricate racks, boxes, cylinders and tanks: repair welders and welding cable connections, cast iron manifolds, casting and housings; braze pipe and tubing; replace or repair bearings, thrust washers, seals, belts, chains, gears, hydraulic hoses, pumps, gauges, valves, rams, sprockets and rollers; use oxygen and acetylene torches, saws, shears, arc cutting rods and metal snips to cut, shear or scarify different grades and types of metal; use drill press and handheld drill motors; inspect and determine the type of repair or maintenance work needed on a variety of Heavy Equipment in shop or field; take down, repair and reassemble engines, transmissions, differentials, gear boxes, steering mechanisms, hydraulics, electrical, cooling, fuel and brake systems; do engine tune-ups and trouble shooting; read and interpret plans and repair manuals; keep time and work records.

Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade with course work in algebra and geometry.


Experience:Level I:Three (3) years in the maintenance and repair of heavy gasoline and diesel-powered construction equipment which included one year performing journey level welding using both gas and arc processes. Level II: Two (2) years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Welder Mechanic I or Five (5) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy gasoline and diesel-powered construction equipment which included one year performing journey level welding using both gas and arc processes.

Knowledge of: Gas and arc welding processes, equipment, materials and shop practices; metals for welding, cutting, grinding and drilling; repair, overhaul and maintenance of Heavy Equipment and accessories, internal combustion gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions and differentials, fuel, hydraulic, electrical, cooling, brake and power-train systems and components; shop equipment such as jacks, hoists and lifting cranes; floor mounted power tools such as drill presses, grinders and hydraulic presses; electrically powered hand tools such as drill motors grinders, impact wrenches; and mechanics' hand tools such as ratchets, sockets and end wrenches; math sufficient to keep timecards and work with measuring tools; metric conversion; safe work practices.

Skill/Ability to: Work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles and behaviors of both clients and co-workers; operate contemporary office equipment inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment; arc weld various types of materials; braze and silver solder with an acetylene torch; cut, forge, drill, and grind metals; inspect, diagnose, repair, overhaul and maintain Heavy Equipment engines, systems and components; use manual and powered tools and shop equipment; read, understand and work from blueprints, parts books and service manuals; write accurately to complete service records and timecards; work cooperatively with other shop and yard personnel.

License or Certificate:

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.


DESIRABLE EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Knowledge of: Speed setting for drilling and cutting different metals.
