Heavy Equipment Technician Ii

JOB SUMMARY:The Equipment Technician II will be responsible for performing work involving the diagnosis and repair of malfunction, as well as preventative maintenance tasks, for diesel engines and construction equipment in addition to hydraulic and electrical systems. Experience with mechanics on Heavy Equipment or diesel applications. Minimum of three years’ experience required.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Inspect diesel engine and equipment hydraulic and electrical systems to determine needs for repair or replacement of parts.
• Operate vehicles and Heavy Equipment to aid in the diagnostic and repair process.
• Repair or adjust parts that do not work properly and replace parts that cannot be fixed.
• Dismantle, reassemble, test, clean and adjust repaired or replaced parts or assemblies to ensure they are in proper working order.
• Perform preventative maintenance to ensure that equipment is safe for operation.
• Inspect, clean and lubricate all moving parts, as necessary.
• Utilize wide range of hand and power tools as well as precision measuring instruments, hydraulic and electrical testing devices.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or equivalent.On-the job training.Ability to travel and work temporary field service as needed,Welding with electric and gas welders and soldering tools a plus.Certifications a plus.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES:

• Work with minimal supervision.
• Must have own tools.
• Work with precision testing devices, hoists, and wide range of hand and power tools.
• Read and understand equipment repair manuals, and schematics.
• Work within standards of accuracy.
• Evaluate information using measurable standards and specifications.
• Apply knowledge of mathematics, mechanics, electricity, equipment and tool operation and other skills as necessary.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments with possible exposure to noise, dust, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, moving objects, sharp edges, and all types of weather and temperature conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Manual dexterity, sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time;
• Frequent climbing stairs / ladders, bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, reaching, and crouching;
• Occasional work on ladders, scaffolding, or high structures;
• Visual acuity to read printed and electronic documents;
• Hearing capacity to receive, perceive, and react to common construction environment auditory stimuli;
• Lifting and / or exerting of force up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds of lifting / force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of lifting / force constantly to move objects; and
• Frequent driving of mobile equipment.
