Raymond Beck started the company when he returned home from serving in the Korean War with the 45th Infantry Division. After his discharge in 1953, he started farming in the Cashion area. About the same time, he started buying and selling used machinery and “bird dogging” (selling machinery for commission) for the Kingfisher, OK Oliver tractor dealership. He also helped Vieth Brothers, the local Massey-Harris dealership, deliver parts and machinery.
In 1965, Raymond and Mary moved their family to the current location East of Guthrie, OK while continuing to farm in the Cashion and Pleasant Valley areas. As a side line, and because of the location on highway 33, Raymond started setting used machinery as well as some new “short line” machinery along the highway for sale. They operated out of the old farmstead and lived in a two-story farm house on the premises. The Beck family will all testify that when you live at your business you are open 24/7. Many friends and good memories were made when we lived at the business.
Many a farmer was fed at the Beck family table as Raymond never knew a stranger and would always invite people to stay and eat or even attend the kid’s birthday parties. Talleri has remarked that Mary has to be a saint.
After many successful years in business, in 1989, Raymond decided to retire and sold the equipment business to his son Ray and his wife Talleri. Raymond and Mary still come up frequently to the business to help, offer advice and “check in”.
Since then, many new machinery lines have been added and our business has become very successful and grown. We now employ 20 team members and have a sales volume of over $15 million.
Beck’s Farm Equipment INC. has been very successful in its strategy of staying close to its roots. We continue to only sell used machinery and new short line equipment.
We have become one of the largest Farm Equipment dealerships in Oklahoma with customers in not only all of Oklahoma and the surrounding states, but also in 25+ other states from Oregon to Ohio and many places in between. We have even exported Farm Equipment to not only such countries such as Canada and Mexico, but also Belize, Ukraine, Australia, Kenya and the Netherlands.
Even though we have grown beyond our wildest dreams and our humble beginnings, we continue to stay with our pioneering forefathers’ values: hard work, honest and fair business dealings and making sure our word is our bond. We believe in treating both our customers and employees like family.
