Join Our Team as an Automotive Technician!

Are you a skilled automotive and mechanical repair expert? Do you have a passion for keeping a diverse fleet of vehicles in peak condition? If so, we want you on our team!

Position: Automotive Technician Afternoon and Midnight Shifts available. Union shop - Starting wage $25.37

Responsibilities: As an Automotive Technician, you'll be responsible for a wide range of automotive and mechanical repair and maintenance tasks, covering gasoline, diesel fuel-powered ad hybrid vehicles such as automobiles, trucks, buses, motorcycles, and specialized construction and maintenance vehicles. Here's a glimpse of what you'll be doing:

  • ️ Hands-On Repairs: Perform major and minor repairs on heavy-Duty Diesel engines, automatic transmissions, fuel injectors, and specialized coach components.
  • Diverse Fleet: Work on a variety of city vehicles, from firefighting apparatus to small boats, ensuring they are in top-notch condition.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Repair and service auxiliary equipment, including hydraulically, electrically, or pneumatically operated systems associated with vehicles.
  • Tech-Savvy: Utilize electronic diagnostic equipment and computers, including AssetWorks M5 software, to enhance your repair and maintenance efficiency.
  • Leadership: Instruct and oversee apprentices and helpers, sharing your knowledge and skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Completion of two years in a four-year trade or vocational high school with courses in general shop and automotive repair.
  • Experience: two - Three years of experience in repairing and rebuilding gasoline and/or diesel fuel-powered vehicles, or completion of an approved four-year apprenticeship in automotive repair.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Solid knowledge of tools, methods, materials, and practices used in repairing automotive equipment.
  • Expertise in general automotive repair and maintenance work, including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic principles.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in using computers, including AssetWorks M5 software.
  • Skill in performing automotive repairs and maintenance, as well as using tools and related equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret shop manuals and diagrams.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, interacting tactfully and effectively with others.
  • Licenses: State of Michigan Driver or Chauffeur License is required.

Special Requirements:

  • "P" endorsement for placement in the Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) is required.
  • "A" endorsement for placement in the Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) is required within 9 months of hire.
  • Employees must provide the tools commonly used in automotive repair work.
