Heavy Civil / Highway Construction Laborer

Summary:
In this position the Construction Laborer must be physically able and must use good judgment to safely perform job duties in a wide range of manual physical labor tasks, will support other workers on the construction site such as tool setup, loading and unloading materials, prep work area and cleanup sites to avoid possible hazards.
Experience/Qualifications:
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • 1 year construction site experience required
  • Bridge construction/repair work experience a plus
  • Roadway and concrete paving experience a plus
  • Proficient in knowledge and use of various construction equipment, hand and power tools preferred, but not required

Education/Licenses:
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required
  • Valid Driver's License

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Assist as required in all manual labor aspects of the project as directed by the Crew Leader, Foreman, or Supervisor
  • Load or unload materials used in construction
  • Move construction materials to locations where they are needed
  • Operate pavement breakers; jackhammers; earth tampers; concrete, mortar, and plaster mixers
  • Assemble and dismantle temporary equipment or structures.
  • Service and clean machines, including pumps, compressors, generators, paving equipment and concrete saws.
  • Maintain visual and audible contact with other workers and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement
  • Abide by company safety program and policies in performing duties safely
  • Assist crew members by using manual labor, shoveling, and/or operating power tools.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to use hand/power tools and equipment in a safe manner

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes, gas, another odor, along with grease, oil, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to work on uneven, wet/slippery ground surfaces. Work environment can consist of working around live traffic and/or an elevated work area with fall protection absolutely required. This position is performed in outside weather conditions meaning you are exposed to all elements, especially the sun for long periods of time. Must be able to tolerate hot, humid and cold temperatures. Must wear PPE at all times. Will work primarily along with other crew members.
Physically Demands:
Must be to physically able to perform manual task for extended periods at a time, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch daily. The employee must be able to walk and/or stand on their feet throughout the entire day up to 8 hours daily. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to use proper personal protection equipment.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time hourly position.
