HEAT TREATMENT METALLURGIST - $80k - $100k +/- (DOE)
SUMMARY OF POSITION
A Heat Treatment Metallurgist is a professional who specializes in the Heat Treatment of metals. The tasks of a Manager Heat Treatment/Metallurgist include supervising various Heat Treatment operations like carburizing, tempering, induction hardening, and quenching. They are responsible for maintaining process and output parameters like temperature, cycle time, bath concentrations, and hardness, strength, microstructure, etc. They guide operatives and technicians to complete the assigned task and maintain records related to production, rejections, material movement, and manpower productivity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
To be a Heat Treatment Metallurgist, one needs to have a combination of technical and soft skills. Skills required to be a Metallurgical Engineer:
Education:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Metallurgy or Material Science Experience: 1 - 3 years of experience working in a machine shop, casting, and/or forge environment; experience with ultrasonic inspection techniques; familiarity with ferrous alloys; knowledge of Heat Treatment.
Skills/
Competencies:
Ability to perform failure analyses, design experiments, write technical reports, work in a small group environment.
Industry knowledge with close attention to detail.
Experience with programs as Word, Excel, Power Point, and computer aided drafting software such as Solid Works.

To be a Heat Treatment Metallurgist, one needs to have a combination of technical and soft skills. Skills required to be a Metallurgical Engineer:
- Experience with metallurgy, mechanical and fatigue testing, failure analysis, metal forming, machining, Heat Treatment and carburizing.
- Should be able to create new repair processes
- Investigate production issues, including corrosion and metal failings
- Advise others on welding, heat treating, casting, and alloying practices
- Excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Self-motivated and strong work ethic.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
Education:
