The Healthy Habits Specialist oversees and implements CHEF, Healthy Habits, and Clubhouse Garden curriculum. They will develop, implement, and train additional staff in programming and how to properly maintain clubhouse gardens. The Healthy Habits Specialist will provide operational and educational support to ensure the successful completion of organization-wide healthy lifestyle programming.
About CHEF (Culinary Health Education for Families)
Rooted in the belief that food is medicine, CHEF is a Culinary Health Education Program that teaches children and families practical nutrition and basic cooking skills, with the long-term goal of motivating individuals and communities to adopt and sustain healthier eating habits.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead Youth Development Professional -Mays Kitchen

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee and operate the culinary kitchen and educate BGCSA members on healthy eating practices as part of their BGCSA membership.
  • Implement culinary age-appropriate programs to be offered to members, parents, community and/or stakeholders, programs to include CHEF Bites, CHEF Sports Nutrition, and Healthy Habits.
  • Develop and implement nutritional components for healthy lifestyle programs for BGCSA.
  • Develop a plan and take ownership of healthy lifestyle program goals to meet and exceed goals.
  • Provide guidance/consultation to BGCSA's existing healthy lifestyle curricula and staff wellness programs.
  • Purchase and/or order food and kitchen supplies as needed, following organizational protocol for purchase approval and documentation.
  • Maintain clubhouse gardens, create a plan for garden maintenance, and train clubhouse staff how to properly care for gardens and implement Sow Healthy programming.
  • Track progress of program participants by collecting both qualitative and quantitative data to report to stakeholders and organizational impact reports.
  • Develop content and contribute to the organization-wide newsletter with healthy living tips, easy recipes, and youth/staff success stories.
  • Partner with San Antonio Food Bank to coordinate meal prep kits for youth to recreate with their families at home.
  • Collaborate with the development team to secure additional funding opportunities and expand the cooking program.
  • Attend Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio events and provide cooking demonstrations as needed.
  • Model best practices related to nutrition programs at the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio.
  • Work with LYDP-Mays Kitchen staff to ensure enriching activities are held daily in the Mays Kitchen.
  • Adhere to and maintain standards following health and safety codes and regulations for sanitation, food handling, and storage.
  • Perform all duties in a manner that protects the confidentiality of Club members and does not solicit or disclose any confidential information unless it is necessary for the performance of assigned job duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Degree or significant applicable experience in Nutrition & Foods, Culinary Arts, or related field.
  • Experience in a youth-serving nonprofit environment is preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish-English), preferred
  • Employee must have working knowledge and expertise of Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Ability to work with integrity, discretion, and a professional approach at all times.
  • Obtain certification to teach CHEF through the CHEF training process within the first 30 days of employment. Adhere to CHEF requirements and annually sign the CHEF Non-Disclosure Agreement and the CHEF Intellectual Property Policy.
  • Obtain a Certified Food Handlers Certificate within 60 days of employment.
  • CPR/First Aid Certified, preferred
