UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a Full Time Health Unit Coordinator to support the Antepartum unit!

2800 is a 28-bed high risk antepartum unit with a welcoming staff and a teamwork-focused environment. Our work includes non-stress tests, stent and cerclage placements, and wound debridement; we partner closely with the physician team to care for high risk pregnancies, preterm labor, C-sections, and methadone conversions, as well as delivered patients with infants admitted to the NICU and fetal demise mothers. Due to the nature of the unit, our patients can experience very high highs and very low lows, and are in need of uniquely compassionate attention and care; staff on 2800 must be empathic and stout of heart.

This position will work steady daylight shifts with holiday and weekend requirements. This position will work 3 12-hour shifts per week. Hours are subject to change based on business needs.

The Health Unit Coordinator greets all patients, family members, visitors and staff members. This role assists with all communications regarding the department, accurately updates and maintains patient flow process and coordinate patient tests and procedures. UPMC Magee is a high-volume delivery hospital, and Health Unit Coordinators are responsible for accurately entering all birth information and partnering with the team to ensure medical records are available for all patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains par levels for designated supplies and forms including down time folders.
  • Maintains accurate unit communication including, but not limited to, promptly answering telephones, activating the paging system, facilitating timely faxing, and distributing patient and unit mail.
  • Greets and assists visitors, physicians and other staff members.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a Certified Health Unit Secretary course preferred.
  • In the course of duties may be asked to distribute medications to the nurse at the bedside.
  • Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
