Building: This position is split between Shiloh Park Middle School and Zion Central Middle School by semesters
Minimum Qualifications: Valid Certification with Health and PE Endorsements
Purpose Statement: The job of Middle SchoolHealth Teacher is done for the purpose/s of facilitating student success in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing state and district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students’, providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc. Ensuring acknowledgement and adherence to codes of professional conduct and ethics.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: appropriate codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; age appropriate activities; lesson plan requirements; stages of child development; and behavioral management strategies.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Responsibilities:
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher’s expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
- Assesses student needs, progress, expectations, goals, etc. for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration. Use diagnostic techniques to assess students scholastic and social strengths and needs.
- Collaborates with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving student learning and achievement, developing solutions, and planning curriculum.
- Daily attendance and punctuality are required for the purpose of ensuring the goals for the work unit can be met.
- Demonstrates methods required to perform assignments for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students.
- Facilitates student learning for the purpose of achieving success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
- Maintain documentation of behaviors and strategies attempted (e.g. challenging students that exhibit inappropriate behaviors and/or behaviors of concerns) for the purpose of improving areas of concern.
- Counsel students to help them develop strategies for solving personal problems.
- Utilize a variety of teaching methods and learning modes in instructing students, for both individual and small group instruction.
- Monitors student activities (e.g. classroom, lunch, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of providing for the safety and welfare of students. Supervise students in out-of-classroom during the assigned work day.
- Performs physical tasks (e.g. moderate lifting, moving about quickly and getting down on the floor) for the purpose of implementing student activities.
