Wolverine Wellness advances community and personal well-being through partnerships and advocacy and is guided by five core actions of Health Promotion as outlined in the Ottawa Charter: prevention, personal skill development, strengthening community action, creating supportive environments, and policy/system level change management. Wolverine Wellness is the hub for campus well-being and offers programs and resources such as: U-M Collegiate Recovery Program, wellness coaching, Well-being Academy trainings, ALA 240 wellness course, health equity grants, health and well-being workshops and campaigns, PaWWs and Relax therapy dog program, safer sex supplies, sleep kits, and more. The unit helps to socialize the institution-wide multi-dimensional model of well-being and provides backbone leadership for the U-M Well-being Collective.

Responsibilities*
55% Wellness Coaching Program Planning and Implementation
  • Provide personal and group wellness consultations and brief interventions with students
  • Support the Wellness Coaching program and maintain a Wellness Coaching client schedule.
  • Utilize motivational interviewing as a core skill in one-on-one brief interventions
  • Utilize the wellness coaching technology platform to support coaching and program assessment
  • Specific outreach with underserved, marginalized and vulnerable populations that have experienced challenges accessing equitable wellbeing services.

20% Collaborative Trainings and Workshops
  • Collaborate with partners to develop and implement trainings and workshops to support personal and community well-being as part of the Well-being Academy
  • Coordinate staffing and resources for Student Life health and well-being program requests, teams and related committees.

15% Health Promotion Planning, Assessment and Evaluation
  • Participate in program assessment and evaluation for Wellness Coaching and the Wellbeing Academy
  • Participate in ongoing strategic needs assessment of the University of Michigan campus community to help guide the unit's work
  • Help develop measurable objectives for programs in relevant core work areas and evaluate effectiveness.

10% Supervision
  • Hire/recruit, train, supervise paid graduate and undergraduate student staff and interns.

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree required in Public Health, Higher Education, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or related field
  • Two years of experience creating programming and outreach in a higher education environment
  • Experience utilizing behavior change theories and models in the development of evidence-based programs
  • Previous experience delivering coaching
  • Experience implementing population-based prevention initiatives

Desired Qualifications*
  • Master's degree required in Public Health, Higher Education, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or related field
  • Previous work experience in a college campus environment
  • Emerging adult or student development theory or practice
  • Research and evaluation experience
  • Experience with integrating diversity, equity and inclusion principles into Health Promotion efforts
  • Motivational Interviewing competency or behavior change theory
  • Training and workshop development
  • Bi-lingual or multi-lingual skills

Additional Information
Position Criteria
  • Excellent verbal and written communications.
  • Demonstrated skills multiple educational methods including presentations, training, small group facilitation, and individual sessions.
  • Demonstrated skills in critically reviewing health and well-being related materials, as well as gathering, compiling, and synthesizing information to develop Health Promotion initiatives and educational materials for a diverse group of students.
  • Program development experience.
  • Familiarity with technology (e.g., Microsoft Office applications and web-based technology tools).
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Demonstrated skill and strong knowledge of public health prevention and intervention strategies.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and inclusiveness in working with populations of diverse cultures and identities in addressing issues of diversity, health, and social justice.
  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence skills

Financial/Budgetary Responsibility
  • Responsible for helping to monitor relevant budget items for Wolverine Wellness.
  • Responsible for researching cost effective resources for position.

Working conditions
  • Evening and weekend hours required throughout the academic year.
  • This is an onsite position with the potential of up to 2 days remote

Direct reports
  • Graduate and undergraduate student staff

Supervision
  • This position reports to the Assistant Director of Wolverine Wellness

This role may have reporting obligations under Title IX and Clery.

Salary may vary depending on qualifications, experience, and education of the selected candidate.
Relocation will not be offered for this position.
