Position Title: Health Promotion Coordinator

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

Full or part-time status: Full-Time

Reports to: Health Services Supervisor

Hiring Range: $18.00-$23.00/hr. DOE

Primary Function of Position

The Health Promotion Coordinator develops and delivers a comprehensive curriculum aimed at equipping newly arrived refugee clients with essential knowledge and skills in navigating the U.S. healthcare system. This role involves designing class topics covering areas such as Medicaid and insurance, health requirements, immunization information, telehealth, appointment and medication management, and health-related English as a Second Language (ESL). Additionally, the coordinator organizes and leads clinic tours to familiarize clients with public transportation routes to primary care physicians and other healthcare facilities. The coordinator also supports Health Promotion through the organization of health fairs and immunization clinics. The coordinator ensures timely completion of monthly reports and billings for Health Promotion services and aids the health services team in various job functions.


Major Position Responsibilities

  • Health Education Class Coordination: Develop and deliver a series of health education classes focused on navigating the US healthcare system for CCS clients - collaborating with other CCS departments, medical interpreters, volunteers, and interns to do so.
  • Orientation and Clinic Tour Facilitation: Conduct an initial overview and orientation session on navigating the US healthcare system, followed by an in-depth class. Additionally, organize individualized clinic tours demonstrating how to utilize public transit to access necessary healthcare providers in the community - collaborating with other CCS departments, medical interpreters, volunteers, and interns to do so.
  • Immunization Education and Support: Provide education on the required immunizations for school and immigration. Support client immunization and education by organizing clinics in partnership with the county health department and/or other community partners.
  • Program Evaluation and Improvement: Continuously evaluate current health education and orientation services provided by CCS and implement updates as necessary to ensure effectiveness.
  • Community Partnership Development: Build partnerships with external organizations to expand Health Promotion resources available to CCS clients and enhance overall community health outcomes.
  • Reporting and Billing: Complete and submit all necessary reporting and billing to the health services supervisor, contract compliance director, and Department of Health promptly.
  • Resource Provision: Provide each newly arriving refugee with a regularly updated handout detailing available community health resources. Conduct Safe Kids car seat orientations as needed.
  • Intern and Volunteer Supervision: Train and supervise 2-3 interns and/or volunteers to assist with health education initiatives and other program activities.
  • Assistance to Medical Team: Support the medical team with various job functions, including making medical appointments, coordinating with interpreters, and other tasks as needed to ensure smooth operation of health services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

  • This position is in a professional office environment using standard equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
  • Some local travel may be required.


Physical Demands

  • This is primarily a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require lifting files, opening filing cabinets, and bending or standing as necessary.
  • This role includes driving locally to teach Health Promotion curriculum and to support other health service activities.


Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Training and Presentation Skills: Demonstrate experience in training and public speaking, including developing or editing curricula with an engaging presentation style.
  • Character Qualities: Possess personal qualities of patience, openness, and respect.
  • Effective Communication: Exhibit strong oral and written communication skills to convey information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Language Proficiency: Preferred fluency in a second language to facilitate communication with clients from diverse linguistic backgrounds.
  • Refugee Resettlement Knowledge: Familiarity with the refugee resettlement process, Medicaid, and available community resources. Demonstrate a high degree of cultural competency to effectively support refugee populations.
  • Independent Work Ability: Ability to work independently while ensuring safety and appropriateness in decision-making and task execution.
  • Interpersonal Sensitivity: Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of clients, families, coworkers, volunteers, and other individuals encountered in the course of work.
  • Time Management: Recognize the value of time as a resource and respond promptly to the needs of clients and coworkers. Consistently prioritize tasks and meet deadlines efficiently.
  • Computer Proficiency: Proficient in computer skills, including maintaining financial data, spreadsheets, databases, scheduling, and email using Outlook Office 365.
  • Efficiency and Confidentiality: Consistently perform work assignments in a time-efficient manner while adhering to deadlines. Maintain strict confidentiality of all client information and files.


Education, Training, and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in health education or public health, from an accredited university, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience providing services to diverse, multicultural populations.


Background Screening Requirement

Must be able to pass a national BCI/FBI background check.

Licenses, certifications, and credentials

  • Current Utah driver's license, proof of auto insurance with minimum policy liability limits of $50,000 per person and $100,000 per incident, 21 years of age or older, a clean driving record, and ability to meet CCS vehicle safety requirements.

Position status and expected schedule.

  • Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, sometimes after 5:00 as needed.
