Mat-Su Health Services is seeking a Health Information Technician II to join our team!

Summary:

Under the direction of the Health Information Manager, the Health Information Technician assists in providing for the efficient creation, updating, retention, and management of medical records.

Essential Duties:

  • This position requires compliance with MSHS’ compliance standards, including the Code of Conduct, Compliance Program, and policies and procedures. Such compliance will be considered part of the regular performance evaluation.
  • Continuously monitor the system for incoming electronic faxes. Respond and/or route to the appropriate party promptly.  
  • Accurately and efficiently import/scan client records (faxed and paper copies) into the client’s EHR and notify appropriate staff of adding new information.
  • Maintain Crisis Call log for crisis calls and crisis intervention notes:
  • Forward crisis notes to appropriate staff by email;
  • Scan information into (active) client EHR;
  • Place (inactive) client notes into Crisis Folder;
  • Enter data into the appropriate program.
  • Perform internal audit of scanned documents into client charts monthly. 
  • Enter AK AIMS Intake and discharge data in CMHC. 
  • Perform various client file updates in the appropriate electronic medical records system.
  • Enters provider information and/or provider transfers into CMHC and NextGen to reflect client status.
  • Assist the Health Information Manager with reports for internal peer review audits
  • Pulls employee TB results and reports them to Human Resources. 
  • Researches problems, missing data questions, or errors in information and provides for the resolution and correction to same.
  • Run daily schedule for clinicians in NextGen EHR and research treatment plan information to ensure that services for next day appointments are covered for billing.
  • Accurately process basic ROI requests. 
  • Research and destroy client records according to MSHS’ retention policy, the statutes of the State of Alaska, and established procedures.
Nonessential Functions
  • Pull archived charts as requested by authorized staff.
  • Perform miscellaneous copying as requested.
  • Serve on Agency ad-hoc committees as requested or assigned.
  • Other position-related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed primarily inside a heated, ventilated, and well-lighted environment.
  • Job is considered low-risk for hazard exposure.
  • MSHS is a nonsmoking campus.

  • Requires speaking, sitting, standing, bending, reaching, lifting under 50 lbs.
  • Requires manual dexterity to operate standard office and other equipment or appliances.
  • Requires normal range of hearing and vision acuity.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency. 
  • Experience with Electronic Health Record System(s) required.
  • Minimum of two years prior clerical experience, with experience in medical records maintenance preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operations and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

General Requirements:

  • Clear background check (subject to DHSS background check)
  • Current tuberculosis screening test result
  • First Aid and CPR certifications must be obtained within two weeks of hire.
