KHS reasonably expects to pay starting compensation for the position of Health Education Specialist in the range of $26.73 - $34.70 hourly.

Definition
Under the direction of the Kern Health Systems (KHS) Health Education Supervisor, the Health Education Specialist will assist with the routines of the Health Education Department; develop Health Education interventions and assist with the preparation and delivery of presentations to staff, members and providers.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This position is an entry level non-exempt classification and is responsible for assigned Health Education functions as defined by the KHS Health Education Supervisor for a Knox-Keene licensed health maintenance organization (HMO).
Essential Functions

  • Coordinates, facilitates and evaluates Health Education individual and group sessions through in-person, telephonic and virtual environments.
  • Assists in assessing member Health Education needs, and in developing, planning, organizing, and evaluating member Health Education activities, which may include special events in conjunction with community celebrations, workshops, seminars and discussion groups.
  • Assists in the development of surveys which comply with state regulations to identify plan Health Education programs and evaluation of effectiveness of the implemented program.
  • Assists the Health Education Supervisor in the needs assessment design, information collection, tabulation and information analysis in order to complete the Population Needs Assessment.
  • Assists with coordinating the development and implementation of innovative tools and trainings to assist provider network and health plan staff in improving health literacy and member access to preventive care services.
  • Assists in identifying and networking with community partners to promote Health Education services.
  • Refers members to Health Education program, services and resources or other appropriate KHS programs based on member needs.
  • Performs data collection through mailed, digital and telephonic surveys, including but not limited to outreach and educational calls to collect member feedback on health programs and interventions.
  • Assists in organizing and conducting presentations to staff, members, providers, and community partners.
  • Research health topics and summarizes findings through reports and presentations to various stakeholders.
  • Participates in community events and planning committees targeted at Health Education and cultural and linguistic services and promotion, as needed.
  • Prepares reports and other documentation of Health Education program activities.
  • Identifies, monitors and evaluates member incentive programs to encourage positive behavior changes.
  • Identifies and reviews Health Education material to ensure alignment and compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Assists with the development and field testing of Health Education messaging and material.
  • Monitors systems to ensure compliance with State, Federal and contractual/regulatory requirements regarding Health Education Services.
  • Ensures that tasks and projects related to Health Education service requests have been performed within established policies, procedures and guidelines.

Employment Standards
  • Bachelor's degree in public health, Health Education, community health or other health or social service-related field.
  • Two (2) years' experience working in Health Education preferred; two (2) years' experience working in a public health or other health care setting required.
  • One (1) year of experience working with focused populations, such as communities of color, pregnant and parenting, maternal/women's health or other similar communities. Experience performing outreach, engagement and education with communities of color preferred.
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license and state required auto liability insurance. Required travel up to 40%.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or other non-English language preferred.
