General Description:
Primary role of ensuring the health and safety of campers and staff by providing medical care as needed and offering recommendations to prevent injury and illness. Secondary role of supporting the operations of Outdoor Science Camp Program by providing direct (training, program designing and revising, etc.) and indirect support (bringing supplies, acting as back-up support etc.) to Environmental Education staff so that the program runs efficiently.
Minimum Education (or substitute experience) required:
- High School Diploma
- 1-2 years college
Skills Required:
- Ability to provide for and monitor the health and safety of campers and staff.
- Maintain accurate Health Center care records.
- Implement the camp health care plan/ work within established procedures.
- Ability to keep supervisor informed and aware of activities and/or problems.
- Manage time effectively, work independently and handle several projects at the same time.
- Able to comprehend and practice all safety protocols and cleaning schedules for all camp facilities.
- Ability to effectively communicate the correction of behaviors and practices that expose others to safety threats or immediate harm.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and physically meet the demands of camp life.
- Ability to work with adults and children regardless of age, race, disability, religion, ethics, or socioeconomic background.
- Possess a positive attitude and be flexible, responsible, patient, and enthusiastic.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Supports the overall health and safety of camp.
- Respond to all emergencies in a professional manner.
- Keeps health records, injury and illness logs, and medical record logs current.
- Keeps supervisor informed of all health problems and injuries on an ongoing basis.
- Keeps the Health Center clean and tidy on a daily routine; ensuring space is ready to use, first aid kits are adequately equipped and ready to use at all times.
- Follows GSSGC and the Health Center protocols, procedures and directives. Uses the Health Center Healthcare Protocols and/or doctor's orders (written or verbal) for administrating first aid, emergency treatment and nursing care in case of illness and/or injury.
- Dispenses over-the-counter medication to campers with parents' written approval when needed.
- Dispenses prescriptive medication to campers per campers' physician orders or approval of camp physician when needed.
- Assists in supporting the overall camp program through.
- Acting as host and/or promoting the camp program as needed
- Supporting the kitchen staff to ensure meals are available on time.
- Interacting and helping teachers, participants, and staff to participate fully.
- Demonstrate and promote a climate of courtesy and professionalism to coworkers, campers, volunteers, parents, and others.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
- Adhere to all council policies and procedures.
- Maintain the standards of the American Camp Association and local and state agencies.
- Serves as an appropriate role model.
- Maintain a working cell phone, either personal or company issued.
Required Certifications/ Minimum Licenses, Education, Skills
- Advanced First Aider Certification required (EMT, EMR, WFR, WRFA, or equivalent); Nursing students are acceptable.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must successfully complete a criminal history background check.
- Must have or be willing to obtain a preventative health care certificate.
- Maintain throughout employment a valid CA driver's license and insured vehicle in good working order. Must provide a DMV printout and proof of insurance and be insurable by the Council's Insurance Provider.
- At least 5 years of driving experience with a valid driver's license.
A requirement of you employment with the Girls Scouts of San Gorgonio is that all staff members must successfully complete and pass a Live Scan finger print background check.
This requirement is in compliance with California Legislation AB506 whereas any administrator, employee, or regular volunteer, of a youth service organization must go through a finger print background check (Live Scan).
the information the organization receives will show any previous criminal history recorded by the Department of Justice (CA DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) for the length of your employment. Additionally, any future infractions wit the two previously stated agencies will be reported to the Girl Scouts of San Gorgonio during your employment.
