Position Summary Information
General Description of Position
Under the general direction and supervision of the Athletic Director, the Part-Time Women’s Basketball Coach manages and directs the day-to-day operations of the basketball operations. The incumbent also advises and supervises athletic activities on and off campus, ensures the safety and welfare of all students, and enforces all NJCAA and college policies and procedures.
This is a Part-Time Regular position covering the basketball season and recruiting time as agreed. Evening, overnight, holiday, and weekend student supervision is a regular part of the job. This position pays $13,000 annually.

Essential Functions


The Athletic Director assigns and directs the coach to carry out the following
responsibilities:
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the NJCAA eligibility rules and regulations. Attend meetings as scheduled by the Athletic Director.
  • Coordinate all aspects of coaching the individual sport as follows:
    • Recruitment: Recruit students/athletes who are of college caliber and maintain a full team.
    • Team travel: Responsible for team conduct on all trips, following departmental policies on trips, and returning college vehicles in clean order.
    • Equipment: Work with the Athletic Director to order team equipment, and distribute and collect all team-issued equipment.
    • Administration: Prepare team rosters, keep receipts of all money transactions and provide appropriate forms, report all scores to designated media, attend all meetings, such as Southeast Staff, Region IX, and provide necessary information for team and individual honors to Region IX.
    • Academic Monitoring: Support and enforce all academic monitoring rules and procedures.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the sport and transmit it to the players; field a competitive and representable team.
  • Maintain good working relationships with the coaching staff.
  • Exhibit professional appearance, conduct, and behavior during athletic contests and when representing Southeast Community College.
  • Comply with the Athletic Trainers’ decision regarding the participation of injured players.
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned by the Athletic Director.

Marginal Functions

  • Establish and maintain direct contact with area high schools as well as other relevant local public agencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
  • Assign duties and responsibilities to the assistant coach.
  • Transport or coordinate transportation of students to medical or other appointments.
  • Transport or arrange transportation of students to and from transportation facilities to make travel connections.
  • Provide appropriate counseling and referral assistance for students.
  • May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
  • Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of NJCAA rules and their applications, with the ability to interpret and apply NJCAA regulations.
  • Knowledge of Basketball practice planning and organization, game preparation and management, conditioning, and recruiting.
  • Ability to organize and motivate student-athletes.
  • Ability and skills to provide personal and emotional counseling for students.
  • Ability to drive a school vehicle (automobile or van).
  • Knowledge and ability to recognize identify and resolve potential student problems.
  • Ability and skills to articulate policies to students, verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to work, communicate, and develop rapport with students, alumni, administration, and community groups.
  • Ability and skills to communicate effectively with groups and individuals in problem resolution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing, in person, and on the phone.
  • Ability to apply fair and equitable disciplinary sanctions upon students who have violated established policy.
  • Knowledge and ability to use a computer for word processing, database management, email, and other administrative functions.
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, or otherwise move objects including the human body. Mobility is frequently required.
  • Knowledge and ability of prevention and caring for athletic injuries and making appropriate referrals to the proper medical facilities.
  • The individual must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job; with or without reasonable accommodation using some other combination of skills and abilities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to qualify for auto insurance coverage
  • Experience in recruiting and training athletes

Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • Previous coaching experience
  • Athletic participation in the sport
