POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE
Head Varsity Coach-Middle School
QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Valid Arizona State Teaching Certificate preferred.
  2. Three years of successful middle school coaching experience preferred.
  3. NFHS Coach Level 1 Certification (NFHS Learning Center).
  4. Valid Arizona State Fingerprint Clearance Card required.
  5. First-Aid and CPR certification required.
  6. Demonstrate interest in and an aptitude for performing the responsibilities of this position.

REPORTS TO
Athletic Director
SUPERVISES
All assistant coaches in the sport for which they are responsible.
JOB GOAL
To help each participating student achieve a level of self-esteem. To develop a total program in the sport for which they are responsible within the guidelines of the District and departmental philosophy and standards.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Acquaints self with the operation of the total athletic program.
  1. Assumes responsibility for appropriate coaching duties.
  1. Acquaints self with Northern Arizona Interscholastic Conference (NAIC), including training rules and conduct regulations, Kayenta Unified School District athletic policies and rules, and enforces these rules and regulations.
  1. Follows all coaching rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the Northern Arizona Interscholastic Conference (NAIC) Governing Board, and school district.
  1. Assumes responsibility for being knowledgeable of all applicable Northern Arizona Interscholastic Conference (NAIC) rules and regulations.
  1. Provides good leadership, organization, and operation of all teams in the sport.
  1. Works with other coaches and assistant coaches of the sport for which they are responsible, to ensure the established program is correctly carried out.
  1. Plans, schedules, and carries out a regular program of practice.
  1. Participates in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
  1. Sees that each student has a physical card, parent permission card, insurance, and a doctor's release from any previous athletic injury before receiving equipment and for practicing.
  1. Makes sure team rosters are sent out at least one week prior to the contest to all schools, preferably at the first of the season to include numbers, weight, height, and year in school of each athlete if required.
  1. Follows District First-Aid procedures with all injuries, checks for injuries after each practice and contest.
  1. Establishes performance criteria and communicates them to the participants in the sport for which they are responsible.
  1. Informs athletes of the requirements for earning an award in the sport.
  1. Always enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior as established and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
  1. Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which sport is conducted at all.
  1. Sees that locker rooms are supervised.
  1. Makes sure another coach or the last one out of the locker room each day secures building and lights are out.
  1. Assures return of all items checked out to his/her athletes.
  1. Assures that awards are not issued to students who have outstanding equipment.
  1. Works with the athletic director in the care and management of equipment; assumes the responsibility of inventory making sure all equipment is checked in at the end of the season of the sport.
  1. Submits, with the assistance of the athletic director, inventory, and budget requests from all equipment of that sport to the athletic director within 60 days after the close of the season.
  1. Informs athletic director of any shortage of equipment ordered.
  1. Turns in roster athletic clerk and athletic director to distribute to teachers so they will be informed of students' whereabouts and not count the student athletes absent.
  1. Maintains necessary forms as required.
  1. Sends all requisitions, purchase orders, scheduling requests, complaints, and details through the athletic director.
  1. Meets with the athletic director for evaluation and selection of the staff.
  1. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Seasonal position depending on the sport and salary is addendum contract basis. The Governing Board will establish salary and work year.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
