Program and Location: Home Based Office located in McCook, Areas of service include Frontier, Hitchcock and Red Willow Counties.

Position Summary: The Family Educator is a resource for parents and a facilitator for learning and assists parents to strengthen their knowledge of child development and community resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruit eligible families, including toddlers, and children with disabilities.
  • Maintain funded enrollment and a waitlist throughout the program year and replace open enrollment slots within 30 days of an opening.
  • Complete developmental screenings in motor, language, social, cognitive, perceptual, and emotional skills.
  • Implement office filing system for child/family files to ensure performance standard compliance.
  • Complete required home visits with families during program year.
  • Conduct required group socializations.
  • Implement the Home-Based curriculum with fidelity.
  • Maintain Family Partnership Agreements with each family served.
  • Pursue partnerships with community resources.

Tasks and Duties:

  • Provide information to families on community events, parent education classes, and other items of importance.
  • Completion and submission of child outcomes.
  • Maintain a current center inventory.
  • Conduct required food experience and provide nutrition information to families.
  • Work with parent or guardian to ensure children’s immunizations are up to date.
  • Ensure all Dental, vision, physical and hearing exams are completed and followed up on with in the mandate timeframe.
  • Actively refer families to resources available in the community.
  • Work with parents/guardians to strengthen knowledge of child development, including assisting parents to understand how children grow and learn. Plan and conduct child education activities in conjunction with parents/guardians that meet the child’s intellectual, physical, emotional and social needs.

Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED. AA or Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work or Human Services preferred.
  • Experience in a child care environment is preferred.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the general public and agency employees.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Model appropriate and professional behavior.

Schedule/Hours: 40 hours per week for 42 weeks (August-May) then 30 hours per week for 10 weeks (June-July). Approximate hours are between 7:30 am – 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday.

Pay Rate: The starting rate of pay is $14.16.

Benefits:With benefits, the wage calculates to a value of approximately $18.12 per hour. Agency benefits provided include: paid holidays, PTO, short term disability insurance, and Employee Assistance Program. Other benefits available include: health, dental, vision, cancer/critical illness, accident, hospital indemnity, and voluntary life insurance, as well as retirement and flexible spending account. Benefits are available during the months the employee is working.
