Salary: $18.96/hr - $22.28/hr

Sieda is currently accepting applications for a full-time (40 hrs/wk) Disabilities Services Coordinator for the Sieda Community Action Head Start Preschool program.


SUMMARY:
Has primary responsibility for coordination, design, and implementation of disabilities services in the Head Start program.


ADDITIONAL TRAINING:
Must complete required training hours annually, per Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) Child Care Center regulations & Head Start Performance Standards.
All staff are considered mandatory reporters of child abuse and required to hold a valid training certificate.
All staff coming in contact with children are required to have up to date training in CPR, First Aid and Universal Precautions.
Participates in pre-service, in-service/other trainings, AEA staffing, staff meetings, and committee work as required.
Seeks out professional development through education, role modeling, mentoring, and by utilizing available resources and training opportunities.


OTHER:
Head Start employees must pass a Pre-Employment state criminal record check, then successfully pass a state criminal record check every 2 years while employed in the Child Development unit.
Head Start employees must pass a federal criminal record check with-in 6 weeks of employment, then successfully pass a federal criminal record check every 4 years while employed in the Head Start Program.
Travel is required both in and outside the service area. Proof of auto insurance and valid driving license is required.


PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill, and/or ability required to be considered for this position.


FORMAL EDUCATION:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Business or related field.


EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of two years previous experience in Preschool or Child Care setting.
Experience in securing and individualizing needed services for children with disabilities.


TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY:
Requires moderate level computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office programs, including, but not limited to, Word, Outlook, and Lync.
Requires moderate level computer knowledge and experience with Windows based operating system.
Must collect, enter, and update data into ChildPlus.net an existing Head Start management program with minimal training.
Must collect, enter, and update data into Teaching Strategies GOLD an existing online early childhood assessment program with minimal training.
Must perform simple maintenance to keep computers operational.

JOB TITLE: Disabilities Coordinator

UNIT: Child Development
REPORTS TO: Child Development Director

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt


SUMMARY:
Has primary responsibility for coordination, design, and implementation of disabilities services in the Head Start program.


DUTIES: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs complex duties requiring advanced skills as follows:
Comprehends and follows all applicable state licensing regulations, Sieda and Child Development Policies and Procedures, and Head Start Performance Standards to assure compliance.
Has main responsibility for coordinating the screening services required by the Head Start Program Performance Standards.
Develops, maintains and revises service delivery plan.
Assumes additional responsibilities, as assigned, in the absence of other service area Coordinators to ensure continuity of Head Start program services and compliance with all applicable state, local, and federal regulations.
Utilize the results of observation ad assessment to refer children requiring further evaluation.
Work with interdisciplinary team of staff and parents to develop and implement an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each child with a disability.
Assist in transitions to assure continuity of services for children and families entering and leaving the program.
Completes PO’s for required equipment and distributes, as needed.
Serves as a substitute in Head Start classrooms when staff are absent and no other substitutes are available.
Annually contacts AEA and/or LEA agencies to update collaboration memorandums to assure maximum services to children with disabilities and their families.
Monitors and tracks all required information regarding disabilities services for the Head Start Program.
Secures documentation, according to Head Start guidelines, on all children diagnosed with a disability.
Informs parents of children with disabilities of their child’s needs and their rights as parents.
Works with parents, teaching staff, and AEA staff to implement special individual plans for children with disabilities (i.e. special transportation needs.)
Provides staff with resources and support in identifying children with disabilities, and provides information as necessary to adapt classroom activities to help meet I-plans and IEP’s.
Informs the Center Supervisor and Child Development Director immediately of any deficiencies in services to children with disabilities.
Coordinates and/or presents puppet shows, films, and books to provide activities to sensitize children and parents of children with special needs.
Assists with planning, training, and facilitates training related to disabilities.
Takes the lead for the Disabilities Services Advisory Committee.
Other duties determined necessary to support the Child Development Unit in achieving the goals of the Head Start Program.


INDEPENDENT ACTION:
Receives minimal supervision regarding task guidelines and completion


DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY:
Limited independent decision-making authority.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Provides direction/training with minimal accountability for select program personnel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Vision abilities required by this job include close, distant and peripheral vision.
Head Start employees must pass a Pre-Employment Physical and TB Screen, then successfully pass a physical exam and TB screen every 3 years while employed in the Head Start Program.

The work environment is both inside and outside.
The noise level of the work environment is usually moderate.
