Job description

Head Robotics Coach, Boston University Academy Tracking Code24599933950423Job Description

Boston University Academy is seeking a dynamic individual with leadership and robotics experience to serve as a part-time Head Robotics Coach beginning September 1 2024.

The BUA Robotics Program is a year-round program requiring coaching and mentor support for both Fall and Spring semesters. The hours and work requirements depend on the number of students, the number of mentors, and additional coaching support from existing BUA staff.

The Robotics Program runs in the Fall from September through December, and in the Spring from January through April, with approximately 200 hours total of coaching support needed per semester. Additional coaching needs are conditional on the team’s qualification for district or state championships, practice competitions and availability throughout the summer, and additional robotics demonstrations.

As the only high school in New England that is part of a major research university, Boston University Academy (BUA) offers students who love learning both a traditional, caring independent school experience and access to a broad range of university courses. In the eleventh and twelfth grades, students follow their passions by regularly completing up to twelve courses from Boston University’s undergraduate curriculum. The school’s 233 students are curious, capable, and kind. They come from 55 cities and towns in the Greater Boston area. 56% of students identify as students of color. 30% of students are on financial aid — a reflection of BUA’s commitment to equity and access.

Boston University’s generous benefits package includes health, dental, life insurance, and paid time off. Full-time employees are also eligible for tuition remission for graduate work at Boston University, and remission extends to dependents as well. For more details on benefits, please refer to the Boston University benefits page here.

Required Skills

Primary responsibilities include supervising the First Robotics Competition team at BUA (Team 246: “The Lobstah Bots”) in their operations in collaboration with a team of undergraduate and graduate expert mentors who support the team and lead students in developing the skills and knowledge to design and build a successful robot while fostering a spirit of team building and professionalism throughout the process. Duties include supervising lab hours, managing the mentor team, coordinating and attending robotics competitions as the team qualifies, managing budget and purchasing responsibilities, and communicating regularly with parents and BUA leadership. Applicants with FIRST experience preferred.

To apply, please upload a resume, list of references (if available), and cover letter addressed to Ms. Victoria Perrone, Director of BU Partnerships here. Please send any questions to buacareers@bu.edu.

We are an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, natural or protective hairstyle, religion, sex, age, national origin, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, military service, pregnancy or pregnancy-related condition, or because of marital, parental, or veteran status. We are a VEVRAA Federal Contractor.
