Overview

Garlock Flexibles is amid an operational, organizational and cultural transformation. After being acquired by Astara Capital Partners in 2021, the organization has professionalized its staff and leadership and begun a lean/operational excellence journey. Under it’s One Garlock operating principle, the organization is focused on the identification, development and leverage the best, lean way to operate wherever possible. This is allowing the organization to quickly develop a holistic operating model that is leverageable across multiple sites and into future acquisitions.

To help reach this goal, Garlock Flexibles is hiring a Director of Human Resources who will be able continue its efforts to update, communicate and manage HR policies and finish the implementation of HR best practices and processes across its two operating sites in Reno, NV and Gardner, MA. Once refined, this HR operating model will be leveraged and deployed in future acquisitions.

This division staff role reports to the President and CEO and will act as the HR business partner for the executive team. The ideal candidate will have previous experience leading the HR function across multiple sites. Prior experience with M&A integration is highly desirable.

As the HR business partner, the successful candidate will align all HR initiatives with the business needs of the company. The leader will plan, lead, direct, develop, and coordinate the policies, activities, and staff of the HR function, while ensuring legal compliance and implementation of the organization’s mission and talent strategy.

Essential Job Functions

  • Collaborate with the executive team to understand the organization’s goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention across all sites.
  • Ensure Garlock Flexibles has a high-performing Human Resources team that aligns closely with the business’ organizational structure and strategic priorities.
  • Plan, lead, develop, coordinate, and implement policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys/assessments to support the organization’s HR compliance and strategy needs.
  • Oversee the administration of HR programs including, but not limited to, compensation, employee relations, performance and talent management, productivity, employee engagement and recognition, and training and development.
  • Identify staffing and recruiting needs; develop and execute best practices for hiring and talent management.
  • Conduct research and analysis of organizational trends including review of reports and metrics from the organization's talent management system.
  • Monitor and ensure the organization's compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; review and modify policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in HR, talent management, and employment law; apply this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.
  • Develop and manage departmental budget.
  • Facilitate professional development, training, and certification activities for HR staff.
  • Ensure proper control of all personally identifiable information or any other information protected by any Confidentiality or Privacy Standards or Company Policies, including but not limited to any state or federal regulations including HIPPA.
  • Work closely with key business partners at Astara Capital as needed.
  • Special projects and assignments as business dictates.

HR Structure and Direct Reports

  • HR Managers/Generalists from each Garlock Flexibles site will report directly to this position. Payroll and benefit activities will also directly report to this position based on experience and background.
  • Additional Human Resources positions may be added in the future based on business need.

Location, Travel, and Relocation Benefits

  • The employee must be willing to travel a minimum of 50% of the time to be physically present in the Garlock Flexibles operating sites (Reno, NV, Gardner, MA, and sites the company may acquire in the future). Remote work is allowed for the remaining 50% of time so long as it does not exceed 50% of the working month.
  • Initially, the employee will agree to spend a minimum of 50% of their time working in Reno, NV, until such time as the HR function is built and local HR initiatives are fully implemented.
    1. The company will provide reasonable living accommodations for this initial assignment not to exceed one year.
  • While relocation is not required, competitive relocation benefits are available.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Prior experience with HR system implementation and administration (i.e. ADP).
  • Ability to keep information confidential and act with discretion as needed.

Education, Experience, Certificate, Licenses

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field is preferred or equivalent working experience (15+ years).
  • Master’s degree desirable.
  • Minimum of ten years of experience in a senior-level Human Resources position preferred.
  • Prior private equity experience preferred.
  • HR Certification (i.e. SHRM, HRCI Certification) preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

The operating environment includes manufacturing and production facilities and the employee must be comfortable in both an office setting and a manufacturing shop floor. Shop exposure includes, but is not limited to, continuous noise, scent of materials, bright workstations, and heavy machinery with moving parts.
