ABOUT THE ROLE

The Head of Engineering, North America will leads and manages the Engineering Department of Holcim North America  to serve the region with the following contributions in Capital Project (Capex) development. They will provide the  best-in-class engineering expertise and manage resources to deliver feasibility studies and project development of large (>$10m USD per individual project, but the portfolio he/she will manage >$100m. in single project value) development capital projects for cement, alternative fuel, clinker factor reduction, decarbonization, etc projects. They will be responsible for leading a team of Engineering managers who are capable to lead and interface with the business and experienced engineering firms, suppliers and contractors to design the optimal projects in terms of design, lean technical concepts, ease to construct and doing so to deliver on operational performance targets. They will continuously develop the internal engineering function and business partners that can respond efficiently to business needs.

 

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • The Head of Engineering, North America shall exercise his/her expertise on a large spectrum of CAPEX investment projects (greenfield, brownfield, debottlenecking,…) for large projects (10 Million USD) in the North America region
  • The Head of Engineering, North America must lead engineering activities in collaboration with fellow team members and stakeholders on several projects in parallel
  • He/she shall be able to operate in a multicultural and diverse team in several locations
  • Contributes actively to establish Health and safety Standards for Engineering in projects for the group.
  • Ensures Health & Safety values, safety and security policies and standards are maintained and integrated into all engineering project activities.
  • Develop, lead and inspire the engineering team to ensure high performance and alignment to the company culture and strategy
  • Leads the the engineering team in developing technical concepts and solutions with a holistic approach
  • Apply and support the ongoing development of the Holcim Plant Design and Engineering standards.
  • Providing efficient and innovative engineering solutions for the business, ensuring that Holcim remains at the forefront of technology developments
  • Promoting collaboration and information exchange with other functional teams to deliver value for the organization
  • Continuously reviewing design concepts and standards with the objective to be faster, cheaper by maintaining required quality standards, local requirements and standards, implement modular approaches in design, supply and construction
  • Develop and interface with engineering companies and service providers to supplement the regional engineering team Procurement: Supports in qualifying the global suppliers for their ability to deliver
  • Develop the optimal project implementation approach, including the contracting and tendering strategy
  • Ensure best possible sourcing strategy is developed for each project

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Education: Bachelors degree
Additional Education Preferred: Masters degree
Field of Study Preferred: Engineering
Required Work Experience:

A solid achievement in design and engineering of industrial plants, project management, plant operations, technical and major capital investment projects for the cement industry.
Multiple, major capital projects (having been responsible for a single project of at least $50m USD.
Industry experience could include minerals and metals processing and minerals process technology
Required Training/Certifications:
A business degree or project management certificate (e.g. PMP / PMI) would be an asset
Travel Requirements:
Depending on the workload 20-30% of the time across the USA and Canada

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
