Job description

At Genentech Research & Early Development (gRED) we have initiated an exciting journey to bring together and further strengthen our computational talent and capabilities by forming a new, central organization - gRED Computational Sciences (gCS). gCS is on a mission to partner across the organization to realize the potential of Data, technology and computational approaches that will revolutionize how targets and therapeutics are discovered and developed, ultimately enabling novel treatments for patients across the world. We stand at the beginning of an exciting journey.
The Computational Catalysts group within gCS is a diverse, curious and action-driven team at the intersection of computation, engineering and science with ambition to advance our technical excellence. The focus of the team is on partnering with the informatics and scientific communities to create a computational and data ecosystem that powers scientific discovery and accelerates decision making. We aim to modernize our ability to acquire, store, link, share, find and analyze data across the organization through scalable and integrated solutions that truly make every data point count. Reporting directly to the VP, Computational Catalysts and as a member of the Computational Catalysts Leadership Team the Head of Data Excellence will play a key role in defining and executing on the strategy of this new group.
The Head of Data Excellence is a well-established and highly credible visionary, technical and people leader with the proven ability to deliver, form collaborative partnerships and foster an engaging team culture built on trust. You will be responsible and accountable for developing and implementing a strategy for data acquisition, collection, ingestion, and curation to ultimately ensure our data is FAIR by design. The data will span a variety of different modalities, including genomics assay, imaging modalities and other in vitro and in vivo lab data. You will be responsible for defining Data Excellence strategies across gCS for data planning and management including data curation, data standards, data models, and semantics as well as data sharing and reuse. You will be expected to drive technical innovation in order to improve our productivity and impact in this space. In addition to establishing and driving Data Excellence strategies, the position will also be attuned to distinct stakeholder needs to form strong interfaces with data generators both within gRED and external collaborators, including Clinical Research Organizations (CROs). Once ingested and stored, you will also be responsible for establishing and maintaining the interfaces that ensure the data can be effectively shared across all of gRED, including computational and experimental colleagues, as well as other partners in the Roche Group. Finally, the Head of Data Excellence will, in close collaboration with colleagues in Product Development (and pRED), establish automated processes to seamlessly link biomarker and clinical data and facilitate rapid integration of different data modalities. Enabling the above will embed a collaborative 'data as an asset' culture and mindset within gCS, across gRED and ultimately all of Roche. You will lead and have span of control over a local team of outstanding data curators, managers, analysts, and subject matter experts.
