The Opportunity

Pillar4 is seeking a Head of Content to join our fast-growing partnerships team and lead content strategy and execution within the health and wellness space.

As Head of Content, you'll be responsible for planning, scaling, and accelerating content production as well as driving meaningful content performance across core digital channels. You'll also be responsible for driving and maintaining content quality standards and brand alignment across the broader editorial team. Success will be measured by traffic growth and rankings, user engagement KPIs, revenue, and more. You'll work closely with leaders in SEO, customer analytics, and product to meet important business objectives for our content.

What You'll Be Doing

Reporting to the GM, the Head of Content will:

  • Oversee the integrated content strategy at the brand level, including, but not limited to, long-form product reviews, roundups, and comparisons. You may also be responsible for integrated content promotion and amplification across other digital channels such as video, social media, and email marketing.
  • Align editorial and business goals, while keeping our customer needs at the forefront. Collaborate closely with SEO, and other teams to deliver exceptional digital experiences for our customers through best-in-class content. Make proactive, data-driven decisions to improve our visibility in search and drive conversions for commercial content.
  • Lead and mentor the editorial team. Support our existing teammates as they grow and expand their skill sets. Build the team by adding new resources and/or editorial capabilities needed to support our brand strategy.
  • Uphold our high standards for editorial excellence. Ensure all content meets user intent and follows our brand guidelines, style guides, and SEO best practices. Above all, ensure we're adding exceptional value to our users.
  • Maintain a strong pulse on content performance. Work closely with the SEO and customer analytics teams to identify opportunities for content testing plans and improvement as well as greenfield opportunities, such as new content franchises, new channels, and new brand/media partnerships.
  • Influence and execute on key business initiatives. As a senior member of the management team, you will also play a role in channel expansion, vertical expansions, M&A diligence, vetting, and integration.

This role demands sharp editorial instincts and creative strategic thinking. Pillar4 is an early-stage, fast-growing company, so we all get our hands dirty. Important competencies include:

  • Deep background in and passion for product writing and editing. Experience in multi-channel content strategy, specifically including product review content, is a must. We want to see that you can ideate, prioritize, and execute on content strategies that will grow audience, drive commercial performance, and strengthen brands.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills. You maintain a methodical process and high standard of excellence in your work, while balancing multiple projects and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills. You'll have the ability to build relationships with external stakeholders, report up to internal stakeholders, and foster strong alignment with your team.
  • Strong analytical skills. You are able to quickly understand data and use it to influence decision making.
  • Independence and maturity. You are comfortable putting your head down and producing excellent work with minimal supervision. You have a successful track-record of positive professional experiences with your previous jobs and leadership.
  • Problem solving and agility. You thrive in an environment where there is no playbook for success. You can adapt to different tasks and shift priorities as needed. You have an entrepreneurial spirit and are energized by doing work that hasn't been done before.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience in marketing, journalism, communications, or business
  • 10+ years of experience in digital content management; experience with in-depth product reviews is a plus
  • Deep understanding of digital marketing principles such as conversion funnels, website optimization for SEO rankings, and audience segmentation
  • Experience in overseeing integrated content strategy, workflows, and optimizations, all with SEO ranking and traffic as critical objectives
  • Experience deploying multi-channel campaigns, including email, social media, video content, media pitching, and more
  • Experience in applying data insights to editorial decisions
  • Track record of meeting and exceeding performance targets; experience leading a team to hit output goals is a plus
  • Familiarity working in a growth-stage, fast-paced environment
