EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

The individual must have strong knowledge of and previous coaching experience in the sport and
must have strong written and verbal communication skills. In addition, the individual must have
practical knowledge and skill in the use of various forms of office software and other applicable
applications that assist in recruitment, communication, and organization of the sport.

DUTIES AND OTHER JOB RELATED ACTIVITIES

  • Must build and maintain their sport and develop a culture which expects excellence in the
classroom, competition, and character of the student-athletes under their supervision.
  • Must be a team player who demonstrates emotional intelligence and the ability to
cooperate, work, and communicate clearly and honestly with administration, coworkers,
subordinates, and/or outside contacts at a high level while maintaining a positive and
    coachable attitude.
  • Must provide excellence in leadership by developing and communicating a strong vision
for the program and implementing that vision. This area would encompass “self-
leadership” in that the coach is continuing to sharpen themselves while leading the team.
  • Must develop the character of the team by promoting a team culture which produces men
and women of character. This is accomplished by mentoring and promoting personal
growth in the areas of scripture reading, prayer, leadership within the SEU community,
and service to the community at-large.
  • Must be competitive by developing and maintaining a program which shows improving
and sustained competitive excellence within the Sun Conference and the NAIA.
  • Must build a foundation for academic excellence by setting and maintaining high
expectations for team and individual GPA, retention, and graduation; including the
implementation of academic support for student-athletes who may struggle in the
    classroom.
  • Must stay within budget by managing the program and staying within the limits set for
the team at the beginning of the fiscal year, both operationally and in the awarding of
    scholarships.
  • Must promote acceptable conduct of the student-athletes in their program by maintaining
high expectations for team conduct in the residence halls, off campus, during team travel,
and competition and have a team who responds to those expectations. This includes
building a culture where appropriate sportsmanship is displayed, and inappropriate
language and on-the-field behavior is not tolerated.
  • Must recruit mission-fit student-athletes who compete at a high level and display a
    history of academic success.
  • Must exhibit professional behavior during practice and competition, attention to
deadlines, good communication, and regular attendance while adhering to athletic
    department policy.
  • Will be expected to raise funds in support of their program.
  • Must be familiar with appropriate rules and regulations and maintain compliance with the
bylaws of the NAIA and The Sun Conference and report any violations to the Director of
    Athletics.
  • Must seek opportunities to enhance their knowledge of their sport by way of attendance
at coaches’ clinics and looking for other professional development opportunities.
  • Must maintain an inventory of all team equipment, supplies and uniforms, and implement
a system for the return of all appropriate team equipment at the end of the year.
  • Must administer a study hall program within the overall philosophy of the department
and with the approval of the Director of Athletics.
  • Must supervise assistant coaches and other team personnel.
  • Must attend all staff meetings.
  • Must exhibit evidence of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Must support and uphold the philosophies and policies of both Southeastern University
    and the Southeastern Athletic Department.
  • Performs all other duties assigned by the Director of Athletics.
