JOB SUMMARY
Position responsible for monitoring the activities at the swimming pool to assist swimmers, to include supervising Lifeguards, and takes precautions to prevent accidents.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Supervises Lifeguards;
• Safeguard's patrons and regulates conduct at the pool;
• Rescue's swimmers in distress and performs first aid as necessary;
• Provides customer service to members and visitors at the pool;
• Tests the water quality in the pool and maintains records;
• Assists with Programs throughout the City of Goose Creek.
• Inspects facility for cleanliness and performs routine cleaning;
• Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• High school diploma or equivalent;
• Must be at least 18 years old;
• Lifeguard Certification; required, American Red Cross, preferred; *
• First Aid/CPR Certification, required; *
• Must be able to work flexible hours to include nights, weekends, and special events when applicable;
• One-year experience working as a lifeguard;
• Water Safety Instruction certification preferred.
• Valid South Carolina Driver's License.

* Lifeguard and First Aid/CPR can be obtained through the City of Goose Creek Recreation Department.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of water rescue methods.
• Knowledge of life guarding and First Aid.
• Ability to teach swim classes.
• Ability to supervise staff.
• Ability to perform heavy lifting.
• Ability to save swimmers in distress.
• Ability to provide basic first aid.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Ability to provide customer service to include problem solving and dispute resolution when necessary.
• Ability to provide quality, courteous customer service, to include handling difficult customers.
• Ability to work under pressure, in a fast-paced environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed outdoors with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside and/or with exposure to risk. Daily exposure to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, and noise and vibration.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Constantly requires hearing, vision, and talking. Frequently requires carrying, fine dexterity, handling/grasping, and standing. Occasionally requires lifting, pushing/pulling, reaching, sitting, and walking/running. Rarely requires twisting, bending, climbing, crawling, crouching and stooping, kneeling, balancing, and using foot controls. Heavy strength demands include exerting up to 10 pounds constantly, up to 20 pounds frequently, 20-50 pounds occasionally, and 50-100 pounds rarely.
MENTAL DEMANDS
Constantly requires frequent change of tasks, working in noisy/distracting environments, and working closely with others as a part of a team. Frequently requires performing under time pressures. Occasionally requires performing multiple tasks simultaneously, tedious/exacting work, and irregular schedule/overtime.
