The Preserve at Oak Meadows is an award-winning public facility in the western suburbs of Chicago, featuring an 18-hole golf course, a practice facility, and a new clubhouse. Owned and operated by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, The Preserve's sister courses include Maple Meadows in Wood Dale, and Green Meadows in Westmont.
In 2017, The Preserve at Oak Meadows reopened to the public after a $16 million renovation project that transformed the 288-acre property into an environmental haven with a new, world-class 18-hole layout. The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County has been connecting people to nature for more than 100 years. More than 5.5 million people visit its 60 forest preserves, 166 miles of trails, seven education centers, and scores of programs each year.
Job Summary:
This position is responsible for the planning, scheduling, and coordinating of the daily pro shop and golf services operations needed for public use of the golf amenities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise daily pro shop operations and retail concession, create a buying plan, research products, order supplies and merchandise, receive and price products, manage inventory, create displays, and run promotions.
- Regularly submit reports like audits of daily revenue processes, invoices, purchase requisitions, and more.
- Respond to customer inquiries, gather feedback, track customer use and business trends, and relay pertinent information to internal staff and external groups.
- Coordinate the planning, sales, billing, fee collection, and execution of golf-related programs and events.
- Perform long-term planning and financial management while monitoring expenses, revenues, and upcoming needs.
- Supervise Motorized Cart Rental Fleet, oversee routine maintenance and cleaning, conduct damage inspections, manage rental procedures and policies for customer use, and ensure safe operation of golf cart vehicles.
- Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and counseling in a constructive manner, and confront challenging situations directly with a positive approach, aiming to support and mentor employees in their development and progress.
- Resolve and rectify issues, prioritize based on gravity and urgency, analyze the root cause, gather relevant information, develop and evaluate viable solutions, decide on the most effective and logical solution, and plan and execute implementation.
- Supervise staff, including hiring, scheduling, and assigning work, reviewing performance, and recommending salary increases, promotions, transfers, demotions, corrective actions, or terminations.
- Foster a working environment that promotes safe work habits; Become familiar with and observe all applicable safety rules, policies, and work procedures; Follow all safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of the District's safety and risk management program; Keep work area clean, orderly, and free of hazards; Immediately report all unsafe conditions and incidents.
- Maintain a supportive working environment and demonstrate a desire to exceed the expectations of internal and external customers.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements:
- 4 - 6 years of related experience in golf course operations with 1 - 4 years of direct supervisory experience (includes: training and coaching, responsible for preparing evaluation, assigning work, responsible for work of employee supervised) or equvalent combination of training and experience.
- Associates Degree (or 60 college credits equivalent) is required. Bachelor's Degree in business administration or a related field is preferred.
- Valid Driver's License in good standing.
- PGA membership is preferred.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Proficient in planning, coordinating, marketing, and conducting golf-related events.
- Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of retail operations as well as point-of-sale systems and computerized reservations.
- Ability to conduct and plan financial reports and recommendations.
- Understanding of golf facility regulations and guidelines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to maintain complete, accurate, and organized records.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish rapport and maintain effective working relationships with the public, vendors, elected officials, and staff.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects while delegating responsibilities to a team.
Starting Pay:
$79,331 - $91,978 per year
Eligible for performance review and possible pay increases biannually.
