Description

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for developing the athletes on the Cheer Squad in the Spiritleader Program, serving as a leader and role model, and coordinating/collaborating with other coaches to create an effective Spiritleader Program. The Head Cheer Coach - Traditional Competitive Cheer works in conjunction with the entire Spiritleader Staff in school cheering, competition schedule, uniform choices, and all related program events throughout the year. In collaboration with the entire Spiritleader Staff, the Head Cheer Coach - Traditional Competitive Cheer provides a vision for the Spiritleader Program in the areas of Christian leadership, character development, academics, school spirit, crowd participation, and competition. In addition, all Student Life Activities & Programs will actively pursue the mission of Orange Lutheran High School while also helping to empower students to discover and use their God-given gifts to serve, learn and grow into healthy, strong, caring people who understand that their identity is in Christ alone and who are strengthened and prepared for a Christian life of purpose, service through vocation, and leadership in a global society.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Partnership, Coordination, and Collaboration
    • Administer and oversee all levels and functions of the Spiritleader program related to the Cheer squad and TCC Competition teams in collaboration with all Spiritleader Coaches, the Student Life Project Manager, and the Director of Student Activities
    • Partner and collaborate with all coaches during the Sideline season to unify all Spiritleaders while implementing and maintaining a high quality among participants
    • Coordinate with all coaches and the Student Life Project Manager to select, order, and purchase all other apparel and/or apparel to ensure they are within budget and align with Orange Lutheran Dress Guidelines and branding
    • Coordinate with all coaches and the Student Life Project Manager to arrange all transportation and necessary permission slips for travel
    • Coordinate with all coaches and the Student Life Project Manager to establish a program schedule and secure proper facilities for all activities and events associated with the Spiritleader Program
    • Work alongside other program coaches to continue traditional school cheers/routines and create new cheers/routines to help promote school spirit
    • Assist in planning, implementing, and attending Orange Lutheran Spiritleader practices, games, summer programs, competitions, camps, clinics, and all other Spiritleader events or activities as determined by the Director of Student Activities
    • Working with other coaches, organizing, and maintaining inventory of all equipment, materials, and supplies belonging to the Spiritleader Program
    • Collaborate with the rest of the Spiritleader Staff to plan and facilitate fundraisers to support athlete fees and the Spiritleader Program
    • Attend all staff, parent, and Spiritleader meetings as well as all required school functions as requested by the Director of Student Activities
  • Leadership
    • Responsible for being present and on time at all games that the Spiritleaders attend, all competitions, rallies, and school functions that involve a Spiritleader aspect
    • In collaboration with the Head Cheer Coach - Competitive Sport Cheer, assign and train Song captains holding them accountable to the duties and expectations of the captains and their roles as leaders of the team while upholding the mission and core values of Orange Lutheran High School.
    • Effectively communicate with school administration, athletes, parents, and the Orange Lutheran Community in a professional and timely manner using the only approved Orange Lutheran communication methods.
    • Responsible for demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ in word, deed, and attitude.
    • Modeling the love of Christ in a positive way both to the team as well as the families involved in the program, the Lancer community, and the community at large.
    • Must be comfortable leading the team in our devotions and/or prayer at the beginning or end of each practice, at competitions, and at other events.
    • Partner with the Director of Student Activities immediately to resolve any Spiritleader participation or behavioral issues that conflict with the guidelines articulated in the Spiritleader Handbook while participating in or attending any Spiritleader-related activities.
    • Collaborate with parent volunteers to plan, facilitate, and attend Spiritleader Program bonding events, program parties, and end-of-the-year celebrations.
  • Coaching
    • Foster an inclusive and supportive environment of growth for all participants in OLu's unique Sideline program design.
    • Host a competition team tryout to determine the best decisions for the competition each season.
    • Responsible for knowing CIF rules and the rules of each competition as well as staying up to date on rule changes and ensuring Orange Lutheran complies with all rules.
    • Use existing or new contacts to work with the Student Life Project Manager to secure bids for appropriate external practice spaces for extra rehearsal time (if necessary)
    • Support program members as they strive to adhere to the guidelines outlined in the Orange Lutheran No Doubt Lifestyle Contract.
    • Always ensure proper supervision of Spiriteladers.
    • Complete timecards on schedule and comply with school payroll procedures and government wage and hour laws.
    • Promptly reports all Spiritleader injuries and coordinates with athletic trainers during recovery.
    • Seek and share Spiriteader collegiate scholarship opportunities.
    • Attend professional development meetings, clinics, and other activities to continuously learn, grow, and improve coaching skills and performance.
  • School Spirit and Crowd Participation
    • Develop enthusiasm among the team for being Spiritleaders of the school through action and conduct.
    • Develop new and innovative ways of encouraging the crowd to participate.
    • Create a positive culture among team members during games.
    • Train the members of the team to manage their game plans on their own with constant enthusiasm.
    • Create a sense of passion for spiritleading among the members of the team that is displayed during athletic events.
    • Work with the student section, Associated Student Body, coaches, and band director to achieve maximum positive crowd participation
  • Competitions
    • Ensure the safety of the members of the team during practices and performances.
    • Model professional and Christian behavior of the members of the team before, during, and after competitions taking place at or away from an Orange Lutheran High School event.
    • Ensure that the dress of the members of the team is professional and in line with the Orange Lutheran Dress Guidelines before and after competitions. Costumes worn during competition are considered uniforms and have already been determined to be within guidelines. They may not be worn outside of the context for which they were intended.
    • Provide a practice and competition schedule for Traditional Competition Cheer by September 1 of each year, and by January 1 for Competitive Sport Cheer.
    • Monitor team safety at all venues of competition.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High School education required

Experience

  • Experience as a head coach for 3-5 years or related experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties listed

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND CLEARANCES

  • Valid Fingerprint, CPR, TB, and First Aid Certifications
  • Ministry Safe Clearance
  • Valid California driver's license
  • NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certificate
  • NFHS Concussion in Sports Certificate
  • NFHS Heat Illness Prevention Certificate
  • NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest Certificate
  • Current AACCA Certification within 1 month of higher date
  • Current USA Cheer Membership - California STUNT by September 1

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The employee is frequently required to stand for extended periods, speak clearly, hear accurately, and move about the campus, gymnasium, or athletic field

WORK ENVIRONMENT
