Summary Description: The Head Athletic Trainer is a full-time, 10-month, benefit eligible position that reports to the Athletic Director.  This role requires the full administration of the institutional athletic training program. Duties revolve around the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.  Management of the athletic training room would include budgeting for and ordering supplies and caring for equipment. 
Primary Job Duties:
  • Prevent, evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate athletic injuries
  • Facilitate safe and quick return of athletes following injuries
  • Treat all athletes with equality and confidentiality
  • Uphold medical guidelines of NAIA, Cascade Conference, and National Athletic Trainers’ Association
  • Coordinate with team physician for additional treatment when needed
  • Keep updated files with medical and treatment records on each athlete
  • Adhere to University policies and procedures
  • Provide a safe environment in training room
  • Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of training room and equipment
  • Maintain updated files for athletes
  • Complete injury report for every injury occurrence
  • Maintain inventory of necessary supplies and equipment
  • Maintain open and effective lines of communication between the coaches, athletes, and the trainer
  • Seek additional professional advice and treatment when needed
  • Have all medical equipment needed for competition easily accessible on sideline
  • Provide coverage for all home contests:
    • Arrange for water, cups, towels, and ice for both home and visiting teams, on the sidelines and in the locker rooms
    • Provide water, cups, and towels for officials
    • Clean up and return all supplies to training room after competition
    • Wash towels as needed
    • Open athletic training room 90 minutes before competition and greet visiting team members.
    • Communicate with trainer for visiting athletes to ensure proper care as needed
    • Communicate with opposing trainer when our teams are on the road as to the care needed for our athletes
    • Stock medical kits for WPU teams before leaving for away contests
  • Provide coverage for all home practices:
    • Tape, heat, ice, and stretch athletes as needed to prepare for practice and after practice
    • Treat any injuries that may occur during practice
    • Provide water and ice on sidelines as needed
    • Communicate with coaches as to the availability of injured athletes
    • Work to rehab athletes who are not healthy enough to practice
Covid Duties:
  • Athletic representative for the On-Campus Covid-19 Response Team
  • Maintain adequate amount of antigen rapid tests for unvaccinated and symptomatic athletes.
  • Participate is CDC discussion with conference and surrounding area ATs.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of understanding contact tracing and responsibilities that come with that.
  • Keep a schedule of unvaccinated athletes and the testing time tables that come with them before events.
  • Keep a record of vaccinated athletes, know who is boosted and
  • Being able to communicate test and game day screening results with conference and surrounding  Ats
  • Communicate with coaches and game day staff about cleaning processes for events related to Covid-19
  • Represent the University at necessary Cascade Collegiate Conference, NAIA and NATA functions
  • Participate in NAIA, CCC, NATA and Warner Pacific University professional development opportunities
  • Demonstrate a commitment to a Christian liberal arts education by upholding the mission of the University and abiding by the Employment Standards and Lifestyle Agreement

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor Degree in sports medicine or related field
  • Current certification by the National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA)
  • Current license through the State of Oregon Licensing Board
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for interacting with coaches, students, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master Degree preferred
  • Minimum four years of experience as an Athletic Trainer
  • Experience working in a higher education environment
Physical Demands – Work Environment: 
The position is located in a typical office environment.  Professional/business casual attire is required.
