Gym Monitor

General Function:
Under the supervision of designated supervisor and in harmony with the mission and purpose of the established policies and goals of the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas, the Gym Monitor shall be responsible for monitoring the gymnasium during assigned sporting activities.
Qualifications:

• Minimum of 18 years of age.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED/O2.
• Complete and maintain required trainings to include: New Employee Orientation (NEO), Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention (CAP), and Sexual Harassment.
• Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and Child Protective Services check.

Essential Functions:

• Support the mission, vision and goals of the YMCA.

• Promote a professional work environment through character development by modeling the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

• Lead in a manner that advances our cause to strengthen the foundations of community through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

• Provide a high degree of member service through a professional relationship with members in regards to their needs, concerns, and questions about the YMCA, its programs and mission.

• Screen participants to ensure that access is granted to the correct individuals.

• Assist members in effectively utilizing equipment.

• Maintain surveillance during games, activities, and member participation; facilitate seating and set up for gym rental, as necessary.

• Maintain and inventory supplies related to gymnasium.

• Ensure safety, rules and regulations are being followed during program operations.

• Complete incident/accident reports in a timely manner.

• Maintain gym cleanliness during and after games including, dusting and mopping the floor, picking up leftover trash, as necessary.

• Input maintenance request in association maintenance software.

• Communicate program needs, concerns and successes with supervisor.

• Wear staff uniform and name tag, or professional attire when appropriate.

• Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.

• Follow department Platinum standards.

• Act as a leader in emergency situations. Report any accidents or incidents according to Emergency Communication Action Plan.

• Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.

• Promote and participate in YMCA fundraising efforts to include Annual Support and United Way Campaigns.

• Ensure all members, guests, and program participants are in a safe environment and actively follow branch Emergency Operations Plan (EOP).

• Carry out other related duties as deemed necessary by the [Department] and branch operations to ensure an excellent member experience.
