Job Description – Guidance Counselor

The HighSchool Counselor is a salaried, exempt position with a 12-month work schedule. Salary will be set annually on a performance-based schedule. This position will report to the Principal.

Job Duties

The Guidance Counselor assists in planning and implementing programs which contribute to a smooth transition between grade levels and/or to post-secondary education and assists with student discipline. He or she serves as a resource for information regarding the educational program, activities and services of the school. He or she provides individual counseling sessions for assigned students in dealing with their personal needs as they affect school performance, as well as their educational and career plans. Provides small and large group counseling sessions, as needed, to address students' personal educational and career plans. The Guidance Counselor assists students in course selections and the scheduling process and works to prevent students from dropping out of school, and assists those that do in finding alternative educational programs.

Qualifications

• The minimum educational requirement is a Bachelor’s degree but a Master’s degree is preferred.
• Possession of valid certification for Guidance Counselor.
• Experience of successful teaching or counseling services.
• The ability to communicate effectively, proficiency in word processing, possessing a problem solving mentality and ownership mentality are critical to success in this position.
