During your summer internship, you have an opportunity to work with our Growth and Strategy team supporting high-impact, mission-critical initiatives. The work will span across all of our UnitedHealthcare businesses, including Community & State, Medicare & Retirement, Employer & Individual, as well as several corporate initiatives. Many opportunities exist to impact the lives of our members:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Partner with business leaders, leading key initiatives such as business development, M&A, and other growth opportunities.
  • Provide analysis and support on topics such as the competitive environment, health care industry, government relations and new market opportunities.
  • Help identify new innovations, partnerships, and/or acquisitions to address difficult and long-standing challenges in improving healthcare outcomes.
  • Support executive level presentations and communications, including planning and driving agenda and preparation for Senior Leadership business reviews and planning.
  • Help create presentations for internal and external audiences.
  • Proactively identify market trends, changes in competitive landscape, and new regulatory conditions that create emerging opportunities or disrupt UnitedHealthcare's strategic positioning
  • Develop research and perform a market landscape analysis to inform innovative, industry-leading strategies, market development activities, and/or M&A initiatives
  • Partner with the business development team, individual line of business owners, and corporate development team to execute on an M&A transaction and integration of acquired businesses
  • Partner with the strategy team and individual line of business owners to assist in leading large scale, strategic projects and initiatives focused on improving the experience, access, and quality for members
  • As part of this internship, you will collaborate closely with key leaders at UnitedHealthcare, including the Chief Growth Officer, business CEOs, business Chiefs of Staffs, and others.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Graduate degree program (MBA, MHA or MPH preferred) and scheduled to finish by June 2024
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization (F-1 students with practical training and candidates requiring H-1Bs, TNs, etc. will not be considered)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience in strategy, management consulting, product or general management in a healthcare related field
  • Investment banking, private equity, or deal diligence experience in management consulting.
  • Proven ability to articulate business strategies and formulate concise solutions to complex problems
  • Proven excellent consultative, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Champion continuous change, consult with versatility, exhibit personal leadership and model a customer orientation
  • Ability to effectively drive results in a dynamic, matrixed environment with a high degree of organizational change, growth and ambiguity
