Position Title: Group Life Skills Coordinator andTAL Lead

FLSA Classification: Non-exempt

Full or part-time status: Full-time

Department: Migration and Refugee Services

Reports to: Transition to Adult Living Supervisor

Hiring Range: $20.00-$26.00/hr. DOE

Primary Function of Position

As the Group Life Skills Coordinator & TAL Lead, the primary responsibilities are to lead Group Life Skills classes and offer support to the TAL Supervisor and TAL Team. You will play a pivotal role in facilitating informative and engaging sessions aimed at enhancing the Life Skills of program participants. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with the TAL Supervisor and team members to ensure the smooth operation of the program and the delivery of high-quality services to clients.


Major Position Responsibilities

  • Independent Living Preparation: Assist foster youth and their families in reaching specified milestones by teaching Group Life Skills.
  • Group Education: Work with the Milestone Coordinator to identify group teaching settings where youth can complete Milestone tasks.
  • Group Life Skills Delivery: Plan and lead monthly group sessions, workshops, and activities designed to teach crucial Life Skills, including communication, problem-solving, decision-making, time management, financial literacy, and interpersonal skills.
  • Needs Assessment: Collaborate with RFC staff, foster parents, and youth to identify program needs and develop customized Group Life Skills classes tailored to participants' requirements.
  • Logistics Management: Coordinate advertising for Group Life Skills classes, manage RSVPs, secure meeting venues, organize catering for sessions, and process check requests for incentives.
  • Curriculum Development: Develop and implement regular Group Life Skills classes covering topics such as the Medicaid review process, finance and budgeting, educational training vouchers, and car purchasing.
  • Program Needs Identification: Create and facilitate classes based on RFC needs, themes, and observed patterns to address specific areas of concern.
  • Training: Provide training to new members of the Transition to Adult Living Team and oversee their onboarding process to ensure a smooth transition.
  • Ongoing TAL Team Support: Assist the TAL Supervisor in overseeing the efficacy and well-being of the TAL Team.
  • TAL Program Development Support: Work closely with the TAL Supervisor and Coordinators to contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of each program within the Transition to Adult Living initiative.
  • Team Coverage: Cover for other TAL team members when they are out of town, double-booked, or overwhelmed.
  • Outcome Tracking: Collaborate with the Transition to Adult Living Supervisor to monitor and track education, employment, and housing outcomes among foster care youth, ensuring the effectiveness of program interventions.
  • Resource Development and Program Connections: Develop relationships with local service providers, educational agencies, employers, and other experts in the community that may be able to teach RFC youth Group Life Skills.
  • Documentation Management: Thoroughly document services provided through meticulous case notes and case file documentation.
  • Active Participation: Engage in weekly staff meetings, monthly Transition to Adult Living team meetings, quarterly Group Life Skills activities, and ongoing transition plan meetings.
  • Additional duties as assigned.


Work Environment

  • This role is in a professional office environment, utilizing standard office equipment, including computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
  • Your work will also take you to youths' homes, places of employment, educational institutes, and other locations as needed.


Physical Demands

  • The role involves extended periods of sitting and standing, walking moderate distances, driving, and occasionally assisting youth with physical activities, such as carrying groceries or household supplies.
  • Driving is an integral part of this position.

  • Effective Coaching Skills: Possess strong coaching abilities to guide and support Unaccompanied Refugee Minors in developing essential Life Skills.
  • Independent and Safe Work Practices: Work independently in a secure and appropriate manner, demonstrating both problem-solving and proactive problem prevention.
  • Sensitivity and Responsiveness: Display a high level of sensitivity to the needs of clients, their families, visitors, co-workers, and volunteers. Respond promptly to the needs of clients and colleagues.
  • Time Management: Recognize time as a valuable resource, consistently responding promptly to clients and co-workers, efficiently performing work assignments, and adhering to deadlines.
  • Proficient Communication: Exhibit proficiency in oral and written communication in English. Bilingual proficiency is preferred.
  • Confidentiality Maintenance: Uphold strict confidentiality regarding client information, ensuring the privacy and trust of individuals served.
  • Computer Proficiency: Demonstrate computer skills, including maintaining case files, completing documentation, scheduling, and using email in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Position-Specific Functionality: Ability to perform the functions itemized in the nature and scope of the position.
  • Mission Alignment: Familiarity with and support for the mission of Catholic Community Services of Utah and alignment with the vision of the Catholic Church as articulated by the diocesan bishop.


Education, Training, and Experience

  • Academic Qualifications: Possess an associate degree in social work, education, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with English Language Learners: Experience working with teenage and young adult English Language Learners.
  • Multicultural and Refugee Community Experience: Showcase practical experience with multicultural and refugee communities.
  • Advocacy in Fair Housing Practices: Have a proven track record of advocating for youth.


Background Screening Requirement

  • Must be able to pass a national BCI/FBI background check.


Licenses, Certifications, and Credentials

  • A current Utah driver's license and provide proof of auto insurance meeting minimum policy liability limits of $50,000 per person and $100,000 per incident. Also, be 21 years old or older, maintain a clean driving record, and can fulfill CCS vehicle safety standards.


Position status and expected schedule

  • This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week.
  • Your general schedule will occur between Monday and Friday, from 8 AM to 9:00 PM. This schedule offers flexibility to accommodate late afternoon and evening hours for home visits and training sessions.
  • Additionally, you will participate in a rotating weekend on-call schedule to respond to emergencies.
