Job Description – Part-Time Group Leader for Youth and Family Services Department
We are looking for Group Leaders to supervise children who have special needs. Our Special Needs program serves youngsters who demonstrate developmental disabilities and/or are limited with their social emotional growth. We provide services to children with classifications of Learning Disability, Speech and Language Disability, Asperger Syndrome, Pervasive Development Disorder (PDD-NOS), Autism (mild to moderate), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Downs Syndrome, Intellectual Disability (mild to moderate).
This inclusion special needs Afterschool program is designed to address the needs of the student by providing close counselor to participant supervision. The children are integrated into the appropriate group setting and have the opportunity to participate in all program activities.

Responsibilities:
- Plan, implement, and document successful educational, recreation, youth leadership, community service, and arts activities with school-aged children.
- Proactively adhere to policies and procedures, making the safety and care of children your primary focus.
- Build a positive relationship with each after-school participant in your care and foster positive connections between participants.
- Actively engage with children at all times to foster the positive development of each child and the group.
- Conduct yourself as a professional and representative of the agency with school staff, parents, children, and anyone else with whom you come into contact in your role.
- Effectively manage assigned groups.
- Actively participate in all aspects of staff or member development, including weekly supervision, weekly team meetings, pre-service training, and an additional at least 15 hours of training during the school year.
- Work on specific goals for participants provided by the program director
- Escort and oversee children
- Educate participants through games and explorations
- Resolve and address behavioral issues when needed
- Make sure all safety rules are followed
- Foster a welcoming environment at the program/site; promote a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Other assignments, as requested.
Skills and Requirements:
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends as required for program implementation.
- Proven experience as a Group Leader or similar role working with children, especially children with special needs
- Familiarity with various children-related activities
- Patient and reliable
- Organizational and communication skills
- Energetic and positive personality
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (strength and stamina to follow strenuous activities like hiking, running, or crouching
- High school diploma or GED, associate, or bachelor’s degree preferred • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must provide quality internal and external community service; demonstrate good judgment in dealing with issues; be solutions oriented.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be able to meet deadlines and with attention to task details.

Hourly Rate: $17.50 - $23.00, commensurate with education and experience
Schedule:
- 4-hour shift
- Monday through Friday between 2:00PM – 6:00PM
- 18-21 hours a week
