The position is located in San Simon, AZ.

Position Summary:

Under limited supervision, promotes a safe, healthy, positive and productive environment for residents of the Group Home by supervising and coordinating the activities of the Group Home Workers. Respects the rights of residents in the Group Home.

The work is normally reviewed upon completion to ensure compliance with general organization/department goals, policies and procedures. Major work activities are covered by procedures or guidelines permitting flexibility in selecting methods to utilize and procedures to follow, determination of work priorities, and the planning and coordination of projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures policies and procedures inclusive of mandatory reporting be communicated to the appropriate agencies within the establish timelines.
  • Establishes daily and weekly standards of work performance and methods of operation for Group Home Workers; ensures compliance with established safety policies, procedures, work standards and required charting.
  • Interprets departmental policies, procedures, regulations, guidelines, goals and objectives as needed on shift.
  • Improves staff effectiveness by coaching, counseling, training and recommending disciplinary action for employees; planning, delegating, monitoring, and appraising job tasks and results in a timely manner.
  • Ensures the proper medical, dental and psychological treatments of residents are recorded in charts.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies, materials and equipment to ensure employees have tools for efficient operation.
  • Schedules preventive maintenance and repair for departmental vehicles and equipment; monitors mileage on vehicles.
  • Prepares daily, weekly and monthly reports on child records on a timely basis according to established guidelines.
  • Coordinates transportation services for residents and program staff.
  • Performs Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or First Aid as required in the event of medical emergencies.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, conferences and seminars; establishing networks; conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.
  • Performs all duties of Group Home Workers as needed and routinely when required.
  • Supervises, evaluates and establishes priorities for assigned staff.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned and contributes to a team effort.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of O'odham traditions, language, history and culture.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations and requirements.
  • Knowledge of Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA).
  • Skill in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations.
  • Skill in budget preparation and administration.
  • Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs.
  • Skill in supervising, training, and evaluating assigned staff.
  • Skill in providing superior customer service to external and internal customers.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to interpret applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals and demonstrate leadership and team-building skills with empathy and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
  • Ability to maintain privileged confidential information.
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines.
  • Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree in Social Work, Counseling or closely related field, and four years work experience in Group Home setting with children, adolescents, or adults; or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.
  • One year of supervisory experience.

Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements:

  • Must obtain certifications in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid within the first six months of hire.
  • Upon recommendation for hire, a criminal background and National FBI check is required to determine suitability for hire, including a 39-month Motor Vehicle Record.
  • May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver's license, (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).
  • If required, must meet the Tohono O'odham Nation tribal employer's insurance requirements to receive a driver's permit to operate program vehicles.
  • Based on the department's needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O'odham Language and English as a condition of employment.
