Summary Position Statement:
This position is responsible for managing the staff and operations in an assigned assisted living home. Managing the home in a way that creates a safe, comfortable, positive, and predictable residential environment, while maintaining business practices that support REACH’s long-term sustainability.
Essential Functions of the Position:
Staff Management
Directly, and through subordinate lead DSPs:
- Supervise Direct Service Professionals (DSPs) in the assisted living home.
- Complete monthly DSP schedules to staff Group Home, while considering each resident’s needs.
- Create and oversee the completion of individual staff training plans for standard onboarding and to close individual skill gaps.
- Work with Human Resources to mitigate performance and disciplinary issues.
- Identify and document policy and procedures in the Group Home to retain knowledge and mitigate impact of turnover on residents and staff.
- Meet regularly to address specific resident needs and prepare DSPs to respond accordingly; correspond to meet scheduling needs using available software and communication tools.
- Apply cross training to generate greater staff flexibility and develop succession plans.
- Participate in quarterly plans of care meetings, as needed.
- Work with staff supervisors from other programs to identify and implement Direct Service best practices.
- Coordinate with Human Resources to connect staff with training and professional development opportunities.
Home Management
Directly, and through subordinate DSPs:
- Procure supplies and food-stocks to meet required inventories while staying within budget.
- Create monthly meal plans to meet residents’ needs and personal tastes.
- Create and adopt safety plans to mitigate risks to residents and staff in the event of natural disasters and accidents.
- Work closely with Facilities and Quality Assurance to develop policies and procedures to guide house operations in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Set standards and guidelines for house organization and cleanliness.
- Coordinate with Facilities to mitigate impact of capital improvement efforts on residents.
- Coordinate with other AL Home Managers to identify and implement best practices across the programs.
General
- Act as part of the Assisted Living Program management team.
- Survey the industry for best practices that meet REACH development and operational needs; introduce to management team.
- Pursue professional development to improve contribution to REACH team.
- Develop and nurture community partnerships that benefit residents and REACH.
- Communicate regularly with managers and staff from other REACH programs to identify opportunities for cross-program collaboration.
- Work on special projects as assigned.
Position Requirements:
One year of experience supervising staff who provide disability services in the field or in an assisted living environment; Professional experience in facilities or business management preferred. Medical background preferred.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in either a human services or business administration field preferred.
General: CPR and First Aid certificates required within 30 days of hire. TB, fingerprint and background check clearance required, must maintain throughout employment. Driving is a requirement of this position, and applicants must be at least 21 years of age, possess a current Alaska Driver’s License; have been a licensed driver for not less than 3 years, and provide Agency with proof of current Auto Insurance Coverage and a successful State Motor Vehicle “Full History” Driver’s Report, prior to employment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of the Medicaid system, disability issues, benefits, programs and practices.
- Knowledge of staff development and employee relations best practices.
- Knowledge of ADA and related regulatory impacts on facilitates management.
- Ability to manage crisis situations using sound judgment.
- Proficiency in the use of computers for word processing, spreadsheets and other applications; proficiency in the Office suite of software.
- Ability to organize, evaluate and present information effectively, both orally and in writing, within a prescribed time frame.
- Ability to work with professional and support staff.
- Knowledge of the medical, behavioral, habilitative, and rehabilitative considerations of individuals, and ability to implement services utilizing such knowledge.
- Knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, precedents, and terminology used in the work, client-centered services, knowledge of resources available, applicable state regulations, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Business or professional writing skills.
- Strong organization, documentation, and time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience pertaining to the appropriate handling of confidential and privileged information.
- Detail oriented with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Physical Requirements: Ability to perform sedentary work. Visual acuity necessary to utilize a computer monitor throughout the course of a normal workday. Ability to perform repetitive keyboarding activities and operate general office equipment. Ability to communicate verbally, both in person and over the telephone. May require occasional heavy lifting. May encounter blood borne pathogens. Heavy lifting may be required.
Working Conditions: Work is performed at the REACH Group Home, main office and in the field.
