Job Title: Group Exercise Instructor

Association: MS Gulf Coast YMCA

Reports To: Health & Wellness Director

Branch: Blossman Family

POSITION SUMMARY. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The essential functions will be carried out in keeping with the goals and mission of the Mississippi Gulf Coast YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Plan and lead group exercise classes specific to your realm of training.
2. Ensure that equipment is in proper working order and that it is used in the correct manner. Clean up all studio spaces after use.
3. Keep track of member attendance numbers in class count binder (at back member check-in desk).
4. Reach out and connect with members, especially new members
5. Check communication outlets regularly to keep current with announcements and information from the Health & Wellness Director.

6. Maintain safety in all classes by following YMCA and national certification guidelines.

7. Always provide modifications for all members and all classes you instruct
8. Stay knowledgeable in the areas of exercise science, nutrition, CPR/AED/First Aid, choreography, etc. through required YMCA and National CEC’s/CEU’s.
9. Notify supervisor of any unsafe conditions, needed repairs, complaints, accident, or injuries immediately
10. Present yourself in a professional manner being accepting and friendly to all and meeting quality standards

11. Follow all rules and policies set by Supervisor
12. Be knowledgeable of all health & wellness programs to help inform members and help them reach their health & well-being goals
13. Attend staff meetings
14. Exemplify and implement the YMCA Health & Wellness standards of quality, including dress code
15. Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Minimum age of 18 years

2. High school graduate or equivalent

3. Knowledge and skills in programs and related equipment, and the ability to instruct participants in techniques and modifications

4. Required trainings within 30 days

5. Active CPR/First Aid/AED certification
6. Excellent customer service skills and verbal communication skills

7. Ability to work with all age groups and ability levels

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
